I like the thumbs better, the page loads faster and if I want to see a larger pic I just click it.
The page is loading slower for me with the large image...you?
target
Jun 09, 2007, 02:04 PM
Same for me. But once it loads once, it's right up the next time.
I DO always re-size the pics at least close to 100KB before I try to upload them, though. Lots of times, if I let RCG's re-sizer do it, it ends up being like 30KB where as if I do it, i can get it to 80KB or something like that.
And it's faster!

Yes John, it really is my home slope, a mix of coastal air and inland-ish thermals.
Lift is rarely what I now consider "GOOD", although on a good day, it's usually fun to fly there.
It overlooks The Donald's Golf Course.

Looks like the third photo in the top row has the elevator in full down (see the gap at the front), looks like the rudder clears I think...

Judging by the yellow triangle painted onto the front of the fin below the stab, the elevator is in neutral position in the third photo...

If you have not actually seen the Altus (or T-Warp) stab interface in person, the pictures may be difficult to understand.
The stab has a "tab" that inserts into the top of the fin. The tab is somewhat elaborate in that it has the connection for the control linkage as well as the pivot point AND a hinged portion in the back that bridges the gap between the rudder and the stab. This hinged portion slides inside the top of the rudder and is allowed to flex side to side with the rudder movement. The system is designed to be compliant enough to allow the side to side movement of the rudder along with the up and down movement of the stab.
So no worries - you can get rudder movement along with up and down elevator. It works quite well. Dieter Perlick was quite clever in coming up with this design.

Like Tom said, the stab has a portion that slides into the top of the rudder and is hinged, when the rudder moves so does this section, It keeps the gaps clean at all stab angles and rudder deflection! Very neat!

Jun 15, 2007, 08:40 PM
Mike's new one is a two piece wing. The originals were a one piece wing design that Dieter sawed in half and added a joiner box so that it could be shipped. The new one has a new fuselage designed for a two piece wing. I think this might have added an inch or two to the total span.
BTW, congrats on joining RCGroups Mike

Jun 15, 2007, 09:08 PM
OK, so the main difference is the old fuse had a bolt-on wing, and the new fuse has a shoulder mounted wing with a pass-through joiner.
I was wondering if the tails were the same and the layups the same ect.
52 oz is light!

Yep everything is the same. Its like he bolted on the wing and cut it off to make the new root. Its exactly the same span.
52oz is about 69-71oz RTF. Sounds right to me!

I could have been the first but I wanted the proper 2-piece version so I waited a few extra years but its worth it. :D
Tomorrow we will put a little heat in the launch, today was easy and fine for a first flight.
Install. The fuse has a Graupner 3728 for the Elevator (Super Duper version of the DS3421) and the Rudder is a DS285. The wings are DS368BB. Battery is 4.8v 1400 2/3A cells and a R790 RX and a JR Gold switch. Easy install. the tray was already in. Tight fit on the wing servo install but no issues. The fuse has tons of room. These are not a serial production model so you have to accommodate a few little things here and there but for a sweet team model its so very cool!
I did let it touch the ground on one landing so she is devirginized. Wish I had all grass!

Bill. and everyone in So.Cal., SULA has a lease on the field 2 Sundays a month, normally the 1st and 3rd, from 9am till 1pm, after 1pm the field is open to anything. meaning soccer or flying. You need to check with a club officer or somebody like me, I try to keep on top of the dates to fly. The club doesn't have a website so it is sort of word of mouth or attending the club meetings to stay abreast of flying dates. There is a $5 dollar fee per person per flying session, and if you continue to come out it is strongly recommended to join the club, and yes there are plenty of electric flyers using the field but the field is large enough to accomodate both without too much grief, of course the more glider guiders that show up the more they have a say so in flying activities since the nonpowered models always have the right of way. I don't have so much as a scuff on my Perfect so far, I really dig flying off grass!

Have you been flying the Perfect off of the SULA club's winch?
I ask because every time I was there to use it, there seemed to be a problem...
The club members are all very nice guys, but it seemed like they were pretty casual about the performance of the equipment.
Maybe things have changed?!

Yes, they both look to be from same family for sure. Dont know about Aspire, but I recently flew the Victor off winch for the first time. It does pretty good in thermal dept and even though launch set up wasnt close to being optimal, the plane can really launch pretty good/high. Cant wait to see how it launches after some tweaking.
