Hi everyone,

I was hoping that someone could provide some advice on a model for a grad school project I am working on at the University of Florida REEF. We have a wind tunnel with a 30" by 30" test section and a max speed of approximately 25 miles per hour. We would like to test an autopilot system with a free flight model in this wind tunnel. The auto pilot we would like to use weighs about 45 grams. We plan to run an umbilical to the model so we do not need to carry our flight battery onboard. Could someone suggest a model (preferrably an ARF) that would fit in our tunnel (probably need a wingspan of 24" or less) that is capable of carrying a load of approximately 45g at 25 mph or less. I appraciate any suggestions you could provide.

45 grams is like 1.5 oz right or even less? The small ones should easily be able to carry that since they normally carry battery, servos. linkage, etc. This link has a number of planes most over 30" but a few under as well.. flipping through the pages, you will probably see what will work. up 25mph on a 24" span is like a hurricane! I would scale the air flow down to the size of model chosen.

Considering the project... you can clip the wings a little to fit the wind tunnel and should be fine.
