I just got a Fred Sage Compulsion. Can anyone help me with suggested CG and throws for Control surfaces.

Also, how well does reflex work on the TE with the FS01 airfoil. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Jack

I used this site for my new Addiction and it got me within 1/8".

For throws, I make them large and work down from there.

If the airfoil has undercamber, lifting the trailing edge up a couple degrees to smooth out the bottom would be a good place to start.

I have a set of Compulsion instructions (in MS Word format) which I could e-mail to you if you provide an address. In any case, the recommendations for CG and control travel are pasted in below.

SETUP AND FLYING:

CG is largely a personal preference, but with the quad taper plan form and oversized stabs, the Compulsion/Addiction likes to fly with an aft CG. I fly my Addiction with the tow hook 5 1/8" aft of the leading edge and the CG at the same location . I fly my Compulsion with the tow hook at 5 1/8" aft of the leading edge and the CG at the same position. This gives a launch with instantaneous rotation to near vertical and excellent soaring performance. If you’re a more conservative pilot, you may want to move the tow hook and CG location forward 1/8".

Typical control throws are as follows:

Ailerons: 1/2" up and 1/4" down
Stab: 1/4" nose down and 1/2" nose up (this will give twice as much glider nose down authority as nose up)
Rudder: 30 degrees left and right
Reflex: 1/16" across the entire trailing edge with a little down elevator mixed in
Camber: A maximum of 1/8" with a little up elevator mixed in

Suggested aileron to flap mix is about 30% and can be adjusted for personal preference. Aileron differential is typically 50% and with this setting, will only require about 30% rudder mix for coordinated turns.

Initial launches should be without launch camber to verify optimal tow hook location and basic setup. After getting comfortable with the launch, add launch camber and pitch preset as necessary to obtain near vertical launches.

Once air born, lower landing flaps at altitude from typical approach speed to adjust elevator mix as desired.
