I am trting to hook up my eagle tree data recorder with the electrical expander kit. I can not seem to figure out how to hook up the voltage wire to measure voltage from the battery. Eagle Tree has not responded to me, their website really gives no help on this matter and im completely lost. Anyone know how to hook up the voltage reading wire or have any ideas?

The voltage wire goes to the positive of the battery.

ya i know that, where does it go from there? all they give me is a alligator clip that is hooked to the battery and then some other imaginary location from there...where does the aligator clip go after it hooks onto the battery? am I missing something? oh, and ive looked at that pdf a bunch of times, its pretty much useless, nothing is even labeled the same as the actual product.

The other end of the cable should go to the connector that plugs into the fdr. Its the red wire referenced in diagrams 1a and 1b in the pdf.

Glad to be of help. I still find it odd that until recently you could plug the voltage/current sensor in backwards, and you still can do so with the usb cable, which I found out the expensive way. Come on Eagletree, put a mini usb connector on the usb port.

Hi Folks,

Wow, lots of room for improvement here for us. I want to make sure we fix all the issues:

1) Eric, sorry if we have not gotten back to you. We were a little behind the last week, due to the "perfect storm" of vacations, minor illness, the holiday, and shipping all the new MicroSensors. I thought we were all caught up on support email. Did you email us today?

2) Sorry to hear that the manual wasn't clear about where to plug the Electric Expander. I just made a change to the figure that I hope will help. I would appreciate it if you could have a look at the new figure and see if it clears things up. We definitely don't want people confused about how to hook this up!

3) Re polarized plugs, we're getting there gradually. The hobby industry definitely loves its unpolarized pin header plugs, due to weight/cost. One other thing we're doing along these lines is improvement of the labels. We will soon have a full label that covers the entire top of the recorder, which more clearly indicates what goes where.

I hope this helps, and please let me know what else we can do!

Regards,

Bill, for Eagle Tree
