Does anybody know where to get the pressure sensor that is on the picture.

The picture shows my Vario altitude meter, whos pressure sensor is damaged. I need to get a replacement, but the sensor has no markings.

The manufacturer's manual says it is used for meassuring altitude from 0 to +500 meters.

Just to tell you that the sensor mentioned is of SMT type, with 6 pads on the left side and 2 pads on the right.

It might be of help.

Hope this helps...

Here's a link (http://www.intersema.com/site/technical/products_guide.php) to the sensor. It's hard to identify as the one used on your board has the plastic cap option. Part number is most likely MS5534-BP (BP is the plastic cap option) based on the picture you gave and the pin count and specs.

Do some searching on the web for availability since you now know what it is. BTW, the plastic ring is to reduce light exposure - it's sensative to ambient light.

Also, you can read about it's use on this web site (http://www.kapelec.com/altiose1.htm) that uses it on an On Screen Display (OSD) overlay board. It's a cool project.

Thanks Gary, that is just the sensor i was looking. It is MS5534-BP used generaly for Barometric/Altitude measurements.

And the price for a sample request at Intersema is reasonable (17 EUR), but the price for shipping via registred airmail is outrageous (32 EUR) and that for a one chip that weights a couple of gramms.

My Variometer costet 80 EUR 3 years ago.

Do you know where I can get the sensor in Europe for a reasonable shipping?

I haven't tried to find it yet. Shipping charges... ...don't get me started.

Try these guys... Nick Belson Design (http://www.nickbelsondesign.co.uk/Intersema/MS5534-AM/ms5534-am.html). Maybe their shipping is less. They want 18.95 GBP and 5.50 GBP shipping, though I don't know about where you are.

I just did a search on your country - that is one beautiful place. I'll have to put that on my EU wish-list of places to see!

I've purchased several of them in the States from here:

http://www.servoflo.com/

They were about $28 USD each and shipping was reasonable.

I phoned the manufacturer in Switzerland and explained them my problem, and they agreed that they will send me the piece free of charge.

WOW.

Thanks all for your help.

I just hope my Vario will be working again.

Just wondering... How is the sensor bad and how did it get that way?

Here is the problem. My Vario must be calibrated at the start of my flight (holding the button for a few sec.) This is to set the zero altitude. But then still on the ground it shows 0m alt., then 6m, then 12m, then again 0m and so on.

Hi, RC

The 5534 has a big problem ... how to solder it well !!! :)

may be yours dropped altitude too fast :D :D ... or was vibrated.

I had a DIY barometer that suddenly gave strange weather ... due to a bad soldering.

May be yours is still working properly ...

The altitude information on this sensor is sent to the processor via 3 wire serial. I doubt a connection of the carrier board to the PCB would cause an erroniouse climb in readings. Sounds like the sensor or the processor. I never did understand the 'warm up' time needed by the Vario.

I will try to resolder the sensor when I get it. I will tell you how it comes out.
