Not that expensive does not fit with boating. Boat by definition is: Boat (n) a hole in the water you throw money into.
Also as an acronym: Boat, Break Out Another Thousand.
OK could not resist that one. The boats you are going to be looking for are the Miss Elam, Miss Llumar, Miss Bud and the Miss Formula Boats (comming soon) from Proboats and also the Miss Vegas from Aquacraft, these are all unlimited Hydroplanes. or the Aquacraft Nitro super V 27 if you dont want a hydro. They are all about $300 plus batteries, fuel, fuel bottle, glow ignighter, Glow wrench and a few glow plugs. Take your pick and visit your LHS.
The Miss Formula Boats is this year's Unlimited defending champion (U-1) and comes now with a .18 instead of the .15 the Elam, Llumar and Bud came with. The real Miss Formula boats (red hull) will be the U-1 and used to be the old Miss Bud back when Bud sponsored the boat. The Miss Formula Boats (yellow hull) is the Bud backup boat. They are both part of the same team but are painted different. I think that Bernie Little was rolling over in his grave when Anheiser Busch stopped sponsoring Unlimited Hydro racing but was happy to see his old boat take the top spot away from the Elam guys. I am still cheering for the Elam I hope they get the U-1 This year

"easy to maintain nitro" is an oxymoron. :D

Your best bet is the Aquacraft Miss Vegas. I'm looking at getting one myself hopefully soon. It's about 6 MPH faster out of the box than the Miss Bud/Elam/LLumar, larger and better handling and upgradable down the road if you'd like to stuff a .21 in it with some work.

Yes, this forum doesn't deal at all with the nitro or other go-fast boats unless you haven't noticed---.

Now kap - ths is the "general questions" area. was up88 is a noobie, cut him some slack as he appears to be a bit of a slow learner - he's asked the same tug question three times and gotten the same standard answers.
was up - Some models are easier to maintain than others. The AquaCraft MISS VEGAS is easier to work on than the ProBoat MISS LLUMAR/MISS ELAM. Depending on the nitro content of the fuel, you can expect to pay $15-25 a gallon. Glow plugs are an additional expense, and you'll probably burn up 2 during engine break-in. Here's a bit of a comparison between the two companies.
AquaCraft MISS VEGAS
+ Slightly larger engine .18
+ Slightly longer hull, 32.25"
+ Two slide locks hold cowl on, faster removal & installation
+ Tuned pipe runs inside hull on left side
+ Radio box has rubber watertight seal for lid, access by removing two screws
+ Futaba pistol grip radio on 75 MHz
+ Adjustable prop angle
+ Factory installed flotation
- Pull start engine
Sells for $279.99 locally
ProBoat MISS ELAM/MISS LLUMAR
- Slightly smaller engine .15
- Slightly smaller hull, 27.5"
- Two thumbscrews hold cowl on
- Tuned pipe runs over top of radio box,and must be removed to access radio box
- Radio box sealed with tape
JR Pistol grip radio, usually on 27 MHz
- Prop angle is fixed
- Earlier version had solid prop shaft, later versions have flex shaft
- No flotation installed
- Older versions have pull start engine
+ Newer versions have electric start engine
Sells for $299.99 locally

DONT BUY THE DOLPHIN!!!!!! That boat is a pile of junk from nose to prop. and I have never heard of hobby tron stick with Horizon Hobys Tower Hobbys or a LHS in your area that is reputable, I know there are a few other good online hobby stores but Horizon (proboat) and Tower (Aquacraft) are prolly the better ones to shop at.
Bob on your stats for the ProBoat offering they are now putting a .18 in the Miss Formula boats offering. Unfortunatly they are still using the same strut and pipe but this new engine I hear is a hot little bugger. I have talked to the Elam team that got to test the new boat and they said it was great. Also the new Proboat has lost those little fins on the rear of the hull. The Miss Bud was the only one of the first 3 proboats to have those fins/wings and the bud team found that they didnt help any and had them removed for the next season. The new hull looks good I just hope it will keep pace with the Vegas out of the box.

You really need to contact a local model boat club and see the boats run before you jump into a high performance boat.
Club members can show you how everything works and help you learn how to tune a boat's engine, drive train, and hydrodynamics to run smooth on the water.

To answer your question about the glow charger; the actual glow igniter needs to be plugged into the charging unit, whuch is plugged into the wall outlet to charge the installed NiCd battery. After the NiCd battery is charged, the glow igniter is unpluged from charger and connected to the glow plug in the engine. The gliow igniter must be attached to the glow plug befioore the engine is started, and remains on the engine for a short time until theengine heats up.
