rather than going to westport i took a trip to New Brighton, near liverpool, then to Runcorn, 30 mins drive away.

here are the pics.

New Brighton, fresh water, 3ft deep and right on the seafront so does get choppy. Runcorn is on the otherhand quite sheltered. one of the Runcorn guys was on the same flight as me when i flew to America in 2006.

A lot of nice boats, and two very good looking ponds.

yes runcorn is a nice pond, its got a concrete walkway all the way round, and the whole pond is 2ft deep, so you can wade out if need be, like I almost had to today.

Its got a park right next door too and football pitches, and its nice and sheltered by trees and housing so gale force winds arent really a problem

yep, especially Runcorn, its nice and sheltered. New Brighton gets cleaned every year by the New Brighton MBC so its quite well maintained. its drawback is the fact that it gets VERY choppy being just feet from sea wall. (see pic)

This would be the equivalent of the Lake Balboa alternative. ;)

Great pix, Ghost! Lots of well-done boats! That certainly looks like the Dreadnought. Always wanted to build that one....but wait, let me finish my other 15 R/C projects first....

It takes a man to sail at New Brighton sometimes! Ghost, what day was this? If it was last Sunday, then I've probably missed you by about an hour, couldn't make it over in the morning.

Runcorn's lake looks gorgeous. Haven't been there in years so I might just pay a visit there soon.
