Comments moved here from project thread:

Skymind: After all the work is done and cleaned up, you might want to consider submitting it to the 'Air & Space' magazine, Navy interest groups, and or Smithsonian.

Bill Harris: They used Loenig amphibians

More on the aircraft, please. I got one hit on "loenig", a few on "koenig" and know as little as I did before...

That is some great history and pictures Tom. We won't find yours anywhere but here that's for sure. What a bygone time. I like to think if I lived back then I would be doing some kind of surveying like that.

Thanks Dan. Afew years ago I searched the web and did not find anything on the survey.

I think we have a unique forum - who else has gold mines, geology, stage stops, biplanes and dead whales? And we've hardly got started on ghost towns, castles, wagon trails and archeological sites.

Tom,

I loved the story. Those pictures are wonderful! They really put it together.

Is there any more to the story?

What a wonderful presentation Tom, At last I have the time to sit down with a cup of coffee and go through your submission. Not only did I get a sense of the history and conditions your Father had to work in but a privileged glimpse into your private family album.

Thank you so much.

Thanks guys.

I grew up with the album. Glad to be able to share it.

There are some interesting aerial shots of the Lexington and old planes that I may post as a 'Data' thread.

The 'Loening OL-8' seaplane has been modeled. I found this at the IMAA website, http://www.fly-imaa.org/imaa/ralley/rally97/conv10.html .

Nice scale subject.

Tom, those are great photographs. I checked the BuNo on the aircraft you have posted and it is a Loening OL-2A. The BuNo is the "A8078" which is on the base of the tail.

I was given a collection of photographs that belonged to a Naval Aerial Photographer in the 1930's. I recently made up a web site for them and have been getting some great emails from Naval Aviation historians. If you don't mind I will give them a link to your photographs.
