Tom (and all other users)
I don't know if you consider this relevant to this forum, but I'm currently working on designs for a miniature gradiometer and magnetometer, small enough to fit on micro helis, and recording data to an Eagletree FDR, which gives the option to gps log at the same time. Todays tests convinced me I've got something that works. If people are interested I'll post here, otherwise I'll head off to the electronics area. Don't expect spectacular survey results from me, as my flying skills leave a lot to be desired so current tests involve a broomstick so I can maintain control!

That sounds very interesting. It clearly fits the 'Scientific' category of this forum.
Sounds like you're on to something. It might even detect the disturbed earth around Ira's Orcas.
I look forward to reading about it.

I agree with Tom,
I know when we set out with the idea for this forum we thought of AP because that's what we're doing. But people like you demonstrate that their are other RC uses that will provide scientific and research type of information. I'm anxious to see what you're doing.

Guys,
I've got another, and I think much better, approach to separating the article from the discussion. And only one thread for the entire thing.
The author uses only his very first post for the entire article. That first post is subsequently enhanced and supplemented by the author as desired.
Perhaps the author also grabs and reserves the second post if he thinks the article will be large and exceed some forum limit on the size of a single post.
Responders comment in the same thread as is currently done.

The only problem with the 'first post' idea is that all of the pictures have to be at the end. It would be difficult to intermix text with photos. It can be done with html but then the photos have to be hosted outside of the thread.
