Hey guys, I tried doing some searching but didn't come up with much.

I need to waterproof a brushless ESC and a Novak XXL receiver for my Mini-V. The ESC is a Mamba 25 which is covered with heatshrink. The Rx is in a plastic case.

The ESC never really got hot when running it in my cars, so I'm not too worried about heat, but I will be running a 28mm motor rather than a 20mm like my car had.

So far my only ideas are to silicone the ends of the heatshrink around the ESC and seal the case of the Rx with silicone.

I would like for any waterproofing to be removable, so epoxy is out. Maybe liquid electrical tape or plasti-dip? Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Dave

Do a search for CorrosionX for reciever , also search in the Waterplanes section of RCGroups. Totaly waterproof ESCs are avaiable here in UK www.mtroniks.net must be available in US . Avoid salt water like the plague.

A plastic bag works well. Tie it at the end with the wires comming out, makes it splash proof but not submersion proof.

Thanks

If you want to totally waterproof it, you will need to remove it from the heat shrink/plastic case and then dip the entire pc board in epoxy. Make sure your wires/crystal are soldered/plugged in place first!

I used to buy round balloons, and drop my reciever into the baloon.
Then keep it in a high water or water tight box.

Most of the time I find my boxes are extremely good at holding water... :o

I used GE Silicon II to seal the ends of my brushless ESC for a float plane. Worked fine. Be sure to use this glue because it does not release acetic acid when it cures, unlike some silicon glues. GE S II was recommended to me by Skip Asay, an RC submariner.
