Hi there,

Does anyone have any experience of the Modeltech 1/3rd scale Cub? From what I hear it is fairly heavy and Robart scale undercarriage won't fit as the Cub is not quite 1/3rd scale but 30%.

Is there another recommended genuine 1/3rd ARF Cub?

Byam.

A guy in my club has one and it is heavy. Believe it or not he flew it with a G38 in the nose. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it. And it flew very scale. But thats about all. It needs at least a G 62 in it.He found that it was very tail heavy when he was building it.

Spoke to HP Sr. Mgr about converting thie 1/3; he too said its heavy.

Not quite as big -- H9's "new" (they did a 110" B4) 1/4 scale: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=HAN4550

I just picked up a Balsa USA 1/3 scale Cub with a 140 3/4" wing span that has been framed up. According to Balsa USA is should weigh about 30-35 lbs. They suggest a 30 to 50 cc motor for it. At 30 lbs, 1500 watts should fly it quite nicely (50 watts per lb) Mine also came with a completed pair of Edo floats so I will probably look for a 2000 watt power system. The kit looks to be an easy build and the price at $575 is reasonable especially if you add up the cost of all that wood!
