I was wondering if any of you have changed over to brushless with these little airplanes, and what setup you used?

check in park flyers forum... there is a VERY LONG THREAD on the cox warbirds.... and yes, I run a EFlite 300 outrunner in a P-47..... with a 2s 330 mah lipo... and the best servo for it are the Blue Bird 303 (4grams each and very tiny but full geared servos not actuators)... just a FYI...

Just a note... EFlite now makes a 180 and 250 BL outrunner motor...

What's the best source to purchase a number of these? We would like to purchase about 10 together and save on shipping. We're here in Salt Lake.
Thanks!

10 airplanes, or 10 motors?

I think I found the PERFECT brushless motor for these things, in about a week, vampowerpro.com will have some brushless 80 watt motors.

what kind of ESC can be used with the brushless motors that are as tiny as the Pixie 7?

heck make your own.

Several vendors offer 16 and 18mm stators.

I've got mine up to 50mph and it could do 70mph if I glass my wing.

tons of motors can fit. Most interesting I have seen is the micro bullet by little screamers, the c-20 from strongrcmotors, and am holding out hope for the new micro motor from gobrushless - that said a standard gbx from go brushless will fit in some of the birds (and I have had great results with that motor in several other planes - but I wimped out and put a c-20 in my Corsair).

You could try one of these: https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDHOBBIES/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4317

Hacker has a new 5A brushless ESC - weight????

As for motors, a Microdan 2003 weighs 13g and produces a lot more than the 12g CDR Baby Bullets can manage. E-flite 250 and Cyclon Nano are two other good possibilities at about 15g-17g each.

Here's my problem. I have some great pics of my p-40 brushless conversion with an eflight 180. That I will probably post tomorrow. I have the 180 completely inside the fuse. Should I be using the stock prop and spinner? I had to do some modifications to get it to attach to the 180, and with a 3s pack, the O-ring fails, and the prop comes off. I balanced some things and ran it up early yesterday and the O-ring failed by breaking! Do I need a different prop? If so is there a nose cone that matches?

I have a couple of these controllers, and while they perform great, they are anything but lightweight. CC10 is probably half the weight. You may be able to remove some weight, but I still think it would be to heavy for these planes.

I have both the UH and CC thunder birds. I prefer the CC. As for motors, with the small wings these planes have, it is my humble opinion that smaller props at higher rpm's are a better selection. Beside the torque issue, the planes would look funny swinging huge props.

I am currently flying mine with a 4.2x4.2 prop (but will probably test a 4.75x4.75 on it - I am using one of the 2900k/v c-20's and suspect that prop is a better match for the motor).

That said, with the 4.2" prop gives the plane more than adequate speed. Any power dive would be terminal - even large loops give me a good bit of flex.

The HW-6A brushless controller is onle 6 grams and can be lightened to about 3 and a half grams or less I have read. This would be ideal if you are using 2S Lipos. Their HW__P10A weighs only 9grams (but could be lightened) and will easily take 3S Lipos. I found these on unitedhobbies website. The HW-6A has free shipping!

Right now in my Focke Wulf FW-190, I have:

GWS 3020 prop
CC Thunderbird 9
Berg 4
2x S75 servos (elevator, Aileron)
Etec 300mAh 3s lipo
Feigao 12mm 4100kv inrunner

AUW. 4.7oz

So far, with the 3020 prop, it hauls butt. I'm going to try out a 3030 prop and see how that goes. After a full run, the motor is hot. Batteries are warm. Looks like my setup is somewhat near where it supposed to be. But I wanna try a different prop to get more speed out of it. Maybe I should've gone with the higher KV motor on 2s..
