The water support was added in ClearView 4.72 (http://rcflightsim.com/download.html) for beta test. The water sceneries will be posted on the web site as they are developed. There is one test water landscape posted on the download page. You will be able to land over the water with Bell 47 floats and SeaDuck plane. All other models will sink. Don't be too harsh on me, as you know, this is the first step and will be improved over time. You may not be able to run the water scene on slow computers/video cards. Please post whatever frame rate you got (with no smoke) and if working or not, so I gather information what is the required minimum hardware for the water scenes.

With the release of 4.72 Water support (Beta), I have reworked the params for the following models:

701 F, 701 F-2, CH-47 Chinook, Hughes 300 w/Floats, HU-16B, and PBY 5A

Please visit the website and re-download

Osage Park with water
Bell 47 w/floats

smoke off
flying around water 124-148 fps
sitting in water 120-122 fps (depending on where I sit in water)
dramatic drop from the usual 250+ I have been getting...so you can see that the addition of water will realy put a strain on your video.

I ordinarily got close to 100 fps, but with the water i get about 20...if I'm lucky. To say the least I am dissappointed. The main reason I got the new pc was to be able to have the newest features of all the sims. I was using both of the Seaduck and the Waterflyer. The smoke effects turned off. From what all the graphics that weren't stuttering it did lok great though. Excellent work skirtz.

Sometime this week...I will experiment with making a smaller pool of water to see if the frame rates get better....Maybe a smaller pool will produce better frame rates...thus giving us some variations to keep everyone happy with the water....This is one of those things...more "Eye Candy" = more strain on computer system. This is probably one of the reasons you don't see alot of water simulation in any of the sims.

Plus I was jumping to conclusions a bit. I posted and only used the water scene for about 5 minutes lol. It almost seems to be getting better....sort of. I redownloaded the 701f and 701f-2 and they still float like a rock. No matter how gentle I try to bring it in, it still sinks and I crash. The only thing that seems to float is the float heli that came with the water demo. The more I fly around the better my framerates get, even on the water. Sorry for a rant, I'm a bit tired and a little hot. The laptop is currently sitting on......my lap lol. Gettin a little hot on my legs lol. Anyways now that I have worked with it a bit it seems to work a bit better.

That would be great. Smaller water area will be quite faster. On that scene I get 100 fps (down from 250 with no water) and my video card is ATI 800 XL

Ok, I guess I'm gonna have to try it again after work this morning lol. The 701f-2 looks pretty cool sitting in the water.

Nice scenary Stefan.

Love the water crash message "Your heli is quite wet now - resetting..." had me almost on the floor laughing.

With sim set to full screen no smoke I get 68fps for the bell 47 float in the plain park in same position as floating dock. Get 30fps with the water.

My system is a 3.2GHz 1GB, Radeon 9800 Pro display running at 1280*1024.

Also noticed CV now appears on the most recently used program list in XP start menu.

Very cool. I like it. Hidden Mountain is the airfield that I use most. I like the idea that its big and flat. I never thought that it would make for a good lake airfield, but it does.

Did you get to try the Hidden Mountain lake? I just posted it here (http://rcflightsim.com/sceneries.html).

This is my favorite scenery. It was created using terragen (http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/). Awesome program.

I can't get Clearview working again. Ever since I tried to reload the 701f and 701f2, clearview crashes when I see the landscape. The program loads as it should but when the landscape comes on screen it crashes to windows. It was working fine this afternoon. I don't know whats up with it now. With my luck its another vista problem lol.

Never mind, reinstalled the program it works again.

If someone was not being able to run the water scenes, but had all other sceneries working fine, I would like to know. Please post here or e-mail me.

Thanks,

i havnt tried the water scenes yet but im having an odd problem. When i give full left rudder the throttle cuts off. Ive tried all my controlers, an the weird part it doesnt do it in FMS.

I dont see the controler cutting the throttle in the calibration

The problem is, in your case, the rudder control is also assigned to throttle hold. Applying the rudder sets the throttle hold and the throttle is cut. Go to Controller Setup screen and assign keyboar F3/F4 to throttle hold or any other free channel.

Hey skirtz, you said you wanted to know if anyone had any difficulties with the water sceneries. Well I am missing certain textures with the water. Here is a pic of what I mean. The problem exists on both Hidden Mountain and Osage Park water sceneries. At this point I just figured it was part of the water demo. Anyway I thought I ought to bring it to your attention. For graphics on my machine slowing down with the water, it still works pretty good. There is only a slight bit of stutter in the graphics. I do have my graphics card set for high performance instead of high quality.

I think your video card does not show the water properly.

I tried changing the settings but nothing changed. Any suggestions?

I should also mention that the models begin to seriously "wobble." And after they start to wobble for a bit the camera sort of spins out of control (I'm not sure how to describe it better than that sorry). I should also mention that I haven't upgraded to 4.73 yet. I have it downloaded, but haven't installed it yet. I checked the Java window that comes up behind the Clearview window. It said the texture is missing or "null" as it said.

I have a Geforece 4 128 meg card, how do i set it up? It has these setup modes, and mine is set for doom 3 i figured doom would have the best settings for 3D

I think your card does not show the water well. CV uses DirectX 9 shaders and your card GeForce 4 is DirectX 8 card. The Water can be seen at its best with DirectX 9 capable card.

Will mine run openGL? open GL would show it wouldnt it?

skirtz

Simply that card can't run the shaders that CV uses for water. This is independent from the OpenGL interface; The cards that are DirectX 9 compatible run 2.0 shaders and CV uses 2.0 shaders. The Direct8 cards use 1.0 shaders.

damn what a waste of time, the past 3 days i been going threw hell and its not even supported.

Wish i had known that before i downloaded all this crap.

I just updated to DX9, new Nvidia drivers, reinstalled the sim 3 times, sent you e-mails back and forth and my machine isnt even up to par?

nice.

so remember folks, pentium 4 3gig, 2 gigs of memory and a GF4 isnt compatable. :censored:

Here i tried to save some money going with clearview but i need a $2K machine to run it.

1. Use earlier version of CV

2. Get a newer Geforce Card..like the 6200 series or better..they are cheap these days.

3. the only problem is the older video...most newer cards are DX9 compatible and have 256 meg ram.

The easiest and cheapest solution is run CV without the water...The only thing that is a problem for you is the water...so don't load the water scenes and you will be fine.

I have Athlon 64 3200+, 2.5 gigs of ram, Geforce 6800 Ultra and It run everything fine maxed out settings.

As Ken said, you can use the latest version 4.73 perfectly well for all known sceneries and will work fine. Your video card may not show the water in "best way" only in two extra sceneries. It is not ClearView problem. ClearView gives you the option to see water if your video card can show it. There is nothing I can do to improve on this. There will allways be some hardware limitations, but the program will function well in 95% of computers. The alternative for me is to stop any new development and drive the program to obsoletion. Hope you understand I am trying my best to offer advanced features and not to make problems for my customers.

You don't need a $2k PC. You need a computer geek buddy to come tweak your system. I'm running CV quite well on a PC I put together when Clinton was president. 900 mhz Athlon slot A, 384 mb RAM, and a 64 mb ATI Radeon 8500 video card. Just the occasional stutter that goes away when all textures have loaded. 25 - 30 fps at HM lake, 32 - 40 everywhere else. That may sound low, but it'smooth and jitter-free.
