While visiting Annacortes this last Sat., saw a great collection and variety of vessels that are not always seen. Included in this is the Steel/alluminum yatch being launched on Sun. The unique thing with this yatch is it had to travel 8 blocks through town to get to the shipyards to be launched.

Or a hot water suit! Yes, last time I had a chance to visit Anacortes, it was great seeing the Foss and Crowley tugs, plus others.

It is a rare day when there is nothing happening in the water, at the docks, or in the shipyard ( Dakota Creek ). There is also an historic paddlewheeler/snag boat, the W.T.Preston, located there. Although it is land based, you can take tours and enjoy it as a museum.
FYI-- The annual Anacortes Waterfront Festival is comming up there on May 19/20 with food, boats, crafts, carshow, and of corse model boats with the local club, Skagit R/C Scale Shipmodelers. This will be our 15th show there. Will post pictures if I get a chance. No charge displays and open water in the harbor ( yes it is salt water ) for those that want to demonstrate ( who we kidding--play!) their boats to the captive crowd on hand.

The pacific Ocean on Washington's coast is about 48 degrees F and in the Puget Sound it is a whopping 46 degrees on average. Great water for salmon but not for humans, and to think that I used to swim in the Puget Sound at Clovas passage all the time.

Yeah, I remember playing in the surf along Long Beach in Washington, and swimming--and not in a wet suit either--in the Pacific when I was young. Back when freezing and fun were the same thing to a kid's mind... :p :D
