2007 Gentle Lady “Plus” contest.

This past Saturday was the Orlando Buzzards’ annual Gentle
Lady “Plus” contest, 21 brave pilots registered to fly, many even
finished!!! I say that because of the 20+ mph winds and we were
flying 2meter rudder/elevator sailplanes most of which were Gentle
Ladys. At the pilots meeting I mentioned we will try to fly 7 rounds
and many of the guys laughed, I was laughing later when I
announced:”round 7 is now open”. We started with a 5 minute round in
hopes of increasing to 7 the next round, but nobody got even 4
minutes! So we continued with 5 minute rounds.
We set up two landing circles with 75, 50, 25 point tapes, for the
sportsmen landing within the circle scored 75 points.
There were 4 novices with two actually finishing, Bill Staley (first
place finish), competing for the first time flying a converted to
sailplane Spectra, and Steve Woods (second place finish) flying a
spirit.
Here are the final standings:

Gentle Lady “Plus” contest” He didn’t make it either!

I would like to thank all that braved the high winds, and all that
helped with running the contest, and a special thanks to “Supreme
Grill Master” Rusty for cooking.

You ran a real nice contest Raed. Thanks!

As I was leaving the field the weather guy on the radio said the wind was 26mph. That says a lot for all the guys who flew in the contest. Flying GL's and other light 2 meter planes in that weather is a real challenge. Flying in all conditions is a true test of a pilot's mettle. All the contestants Saturday proved that they have "The Right Stuff"!
