I need a gyro for my heli. The Futaba GY401 Gyro seems to be a good choice. Are there any better: performance/price? ...And if the gy401 is a good choice can I use a digital servo ( Futaba GY401 Gyro with S9253 Servo Combo) with my FM/PPM receiver? Any advice is appreciated.

I would say for the money get the 401/9253 combo. Most places have them for $199. I have seen Jason Krause use one on his Fury Extreme with a OS91 and it held perfect!

I'd have to second the 401 with the 9253 servo. Holds very well. 601's are very good too, but unless you're a reallllly good pilot, you're not going to notice the difference.

And as to your second question, you can use the gyro/servo combo with your ppm reciever just fine... as far as when to get the 601... one of my flying buddies had it right... wait until the guys you fly with who are a whole heck of a lot better than you (they are the ones who can help you the most) walk up and casually say "hey bud, you need a 601" and when he heard that, he bought one
