I have 4 boats that use typical 500 brushed motors. Only one of them has 2 motors geared to one surface prop - it is a hydroplane. What inexpensive brushless motors can I use?

Mega motors 22series and Feigao 540series are very good for the price (in the UK they sell for about the same as a trinity modified), and bolt right on to the 500s mounting although both have 5mm shafts not 3.2 so you will need new adaptors.
How big are your boats? How many cells? How fast are you trying to go? Those series of motors cover a very broad power range:-
A mega22/10/* will can run similarly to a brushed 500 at 200 watts but with better efficiency and lighter weight.
A 22/20/* or a 540*S would replace a hot 540 0n 6-8cells.
A 22/30/* or 540*L is better than any brushed 540 and good for 6-12 cells
A 22/45/* or 540*XL is well above a brushd 700 and is good for 10-30 cells
Forget 2 motors geared into 1 prop, a 22/30/* or 540*L will have more power than the pair of 500s and weigh a lot less too
Edit, wow the thread is closed allread that was quick, for around the same power as a 500 or a little more with extra efficency and less weight for longer runs, I would go with Mega 22/10/6 or there abouts, thats 2000kv if you know the KV of your 500 you may be able to get a brushless closer to it.

Thank you for the prompt reply, Nativepaul, now I have an idea for the replacement. I don't want really go that fast, but I want better battery performance and decent duration. My boats are: a HURRICANE from Kyosho, a hydroplane UNLIMITED "Liquid Moly" from Gaupner, a PORTOFINO also from Graupner and a " EXCALIBUR" from Kyosho. The later one was my first into the boat adventure. They all are still going! The Portofino has 2 motors and 2 props, the BEST performer I ever had. On this one, I had to add a little plastic fin at the bottom because had the tendency to slide and lean on turns. Very scary! All of them run mostly on 6 cells. ALDO
