In cobbing together parts for the air boat I'm building, I
came up with an idea for a waterproof switch that may be of
interest.

I had a SPST Mini Toggle Switch (Radio Shack 275-324,
10A@125V) laying around and decided to use it. After
drilling a hole in the deck, I put a thin layer (1/32") of
silicone caulk on the underside, all around the hole, and
mounted the switch. I then put a bead of caulk all around
the switch body, insuring a leakproof seal on the inside.
To prevent water from getting into the switch itself, I used
a toothpick to pack the area around the toggle with silicone
grease (the type used for swimming pool O-rings). If the
grease gets dirty, I can easily clean and re-pack it. I'm
pretty sure this will remain water tight even after an
overturn.
