Looking for a heat gun to use on 18Ga. wire and larger heat shrink that will cover batteries. I am just wondering what temps work the best for all the ranges from the two listed above. Ther are just a ton of heat guns for sale.

Thanks

Get a good variable temp. gun. I forget what we had at my last job, but it was much nicer to work with than the cheaper guns you can buy almost anywhere. It cost somewhere above $200. An important feature is having a gun with fan only setting. This allows you to let the gun cool and seems to give it better longevity.

For smaller work (like wires)
I have a hot air pencil on my solder station, meant for spot reflow work and heat shrink.

Any of the popular heat guns used for iron on coverings is perfect.
You control the temperature by varying the distance between the nozzle and the work. For what you are doing, no need to spend big bucks ;)

AlainMy wife owns a hair dryer, but I won't go there. :D ;)

I will do some more searching. I know its not real critical, but didn't see any input when searching here at RCG.

Thanks

I use my Black and Decker heat gun. Way to hot for covering, but does heat shrink nice and quickly. :)

I use one from haborfrieght. Bought it for $19. It was on sale at sometimes for only $9. It only has 2 temp. settings though, and the lowest setting is pretty hot for RC covering, so make sure you don't heat it too close ;)
