Has anybody seen this?

http://xo.typepad.com/blog/2004/07/the_biggest_rc_.html

Sure would like to find some information on that beast.

Don't bother clicking the link in the story, by the way- it just leads to some porno site, and not a very good one at that.

Holy cow. That thing is huge. Im happy with my little slow stick for now. Plus if i crash mine i can fix it with a dollars worth of tape rather than a second mortgage.

Check out the UK LMA site featured models http://www.largemodelassociation.com/index.html

The models demise virtually replicated a real B52 crash of a few years back

MalI've never heard what killed that. I'd like to know!

It looks as if he leveled off, and then got his left/right orientation confused. Could be wrong about that, but I know I've lost a model in a similar situation on a dark day and the model is just a black shape off in the distance as in the vid. The problem is, you think it's banking right and put in some left stick to correct, only to realise it was going left in the first place, so she tips over to the left and thats it. With a model that size, I imagine the problem would be compounded.

Thats my theory

Tip stall, bank was too steep. How do I know?

I seem to be the RCgroups resident expert on tip stalls. Not proud of that title, but if the shoe fits, I wear it.

Some day, perhaps I will learn. But with very large RC planes it's not something that can be practiced, recovery from a spin is almost impossible.

I too am a tipstall king. I just lost two 2meter slopers doing that at low wind lift. One is total loss. The other simple epoxy fix. What you can do. ;)

Watch carefull and it seems to be pretty windy (the blue tarpaulin in the foreground flaps about, and the aircraft wobbles a bit in flight)

Presuming they're taking off into the wind, that means the turn just before the crash was made facing downwind - airflow over the wings would be pretty low already so it's probably a tip-stall. That's happened to me before (although without such... spectacular results!). With something that big/heavy it'd be pretty tough to recover from.
