All the cradle has to do is to trip a simple switch near the turn around pulley...

1.Exuse me, pardon. It is puzzle without comments.
2. It was project for military system same years ego.
Principle of launch w/ shuttle usung by launch of drones (USA, Israel, etc)
3. "Jumper - B" is Semi-Automatic Catapult Sistem (SACS).
There used standard equiment such as 12 V. starter and 12V. rechargeable battery. A standard alum. angle was used to build the guide rail.
SACS can be used for launch RC planes different configurations.
Design SACS provides using alternative devices (bungee, rocetry motor) almost without modification.
Using of shuttle for launch provides possibility increasing effectivness of launch.
Pilot controls ONLY RC plane via ordinary (even 3 ch) Radio System.
Pilot can be located as far as need.
Detailes are in article, which ready for published.

I have to say, that electric scheme is simple:
Switch - 1
Snap Action Switches - 2
Indicator lamp - 1
Batterry - 1.
Starter - 1.
Structure of SACS is simple too.
Guide, support from aluminium pipes, sheaves, shuttle (start platform)

I'm thinking a lot of weight and expense could be saved if you store the launch energy in a bungee instead of a battery/motor rig. This looks like severe overkill. Bill

Fon: This is interesting. How heavy of model has been launched by this system.
ghoti (fish): it sure beats the screwing around with bungee, release mechanism and shifting it whenever the wind changes. Especially when one already has the motor and battery. Tex.

Sir, sorry, I was out.
1. Weght plane was ~ 3.0 - 3,5lbs.
I suppose that GW of plane can be different. It depond on RPM and power of starter, square of wing...
2. I understand, that SALS have + and - .
About it I said before
SALS - simpliest prototipe of special project.
Thanks.

I would like to see a video of a launch.
I still like this idea.
I don't like messing with the bungee at the field.
And other fliers don't like me having to go out on the field to retrieve the bungee and stretch it out to my launcher again.
It would be kind of nice to just set something down and launch my plane.

I had some thing of the same idea some years ago but haven’t done any thing about putting one together as of yet.
What is shown here is good for powerless planes.
What I was thinking of is for powered planes. It would need two parallel tracks wide enough apart to clear the prop. The ramps would be some thing like a drawer track with rollers in side them. The wings will rest in a saddle so not to rub on the tracks and to carry the plane up on the tracks . A skid plate mounted on the bottom of the fuse. with a notch cut out near the front of it to attach the loop from the pulling line and the plate will protect the bottom of the fuse. during landing which should be on the grass.
Like is shown here , the catapult could be electric or bungee powered.
Now lager planes can fly with less drag with out the wheels.
I have a Birdy 10 with a OS 25 on it for power . The plane and fuse. Is small enough and narrow enough to hand lunch . With out landing gear , that is one fast Flynn plane.

We used to have a similar device back when I flew 704 combat. It was about 5' long and we used surgical tubing. The tubing started at the back and ran underneath up to the front (exit end) around turn around pulleys then back down the top to the launch carriage. Tension was easily adjusted although we seldom did as most 704 planes were of similar weight.

I was refering to the Trebuchet. I can just imagine that thing pounding your plane to splinters if it didn't release.

Nice thread, lots of unique ways to launch. Here is my setup.
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=532544
I built an electrically operated foot switch and bungee system. Works great, been happy with it's results and takes up very little room. I've also built a launch tower out of pcv for tall grass as well.
I was going to bring a spare servo wire from the plane or just have a second reciever on the ground so I could launch it remotely with my radio. In the end I liked being behind the plane so I just kept it simple.
