New Plans - 72 inch Offshore Mono

Hi Guys,

Doug Reeve, the designer of the popular Wild Thing Mono, has been kind
enough to release his plans for a 72 inch Offshore Mono. The plans can
be downloaded from here:

Doug hasn't had a chance to build this boat yet so lets see who can get
the first one in the water.

hi is doug a member here, if not could someone that knows him ask a
question for me. i downloaded the 72 inch plans wow thats one big hull.
i noticed in amongst the plans that there appears to be a pdf of a 3d
model is there 3d models for the hull or for the wildthing and if so
would he be willing to release these also.

i designed a hull on solidworks then realised i had very little idea
what makes a good hull and dont want to waste time making it if it
doesnt drive very well.

i would be hoping to make a mould and produce the hull in glassfiber or
carbonfiber

any help welcomed :)

Hi. I am am member here. The boat was designed as a solid model. Having
the model won't tell you much about what makes a good hull. I'm just
doing this using trial and error myself. A lot of people call my first
hull the Wildthing, but it's not. The Wildthing is a 21 mono designed
by John Finch who knows more about rc boats than I will ever know. The
Wildthing was definitely the inspiration for the basic look of my first
mono tho. The 72 inch hull was designed for someone who has since lost
interest, so I decided to put it on here and see if anyone else wanted
to try it. I prefer not to give out my solid model, sorry bout that. It
wouldn't be hard to create one using the dxf files as sketches to create
the parts and then creating an assembly. Doug

Fastguy, since the boat has never been built or tested, motor and props
are a guess. If you're careful I don't think it should weigh too much.
I think a 260 will push it just fine for playing around. It's
definitely not a race boat. Props are anyone's guess, I just don't
know. If anyone builds this boat please let us know how it goes and
what props and engines work. Doug

[Thin water]

I built and glued up my frames. The bottom will go on tomorrow. I figure
about a week to complete it but I am going to epoxy/glass it then use it
as a plug to make a mold from.

Have you considered trying out the wood boat before going thru all the
trouble of making a mold? You may get done and it may not run well at
all. It's never been built or run by anyone before. Doug

[Thin water]

The hull/stringer/bulkhead assembly went together very well. The boat
has a nice shape and I am sure it will work well. There is no hook or
rocker on the plaining surface. It has fairly high freeboard so my only
concern will be stability in corners. Thanks for the plans!

mold I made today and it came out great. I could do a how to make a mold
build thread, what do you think?

Well I gave it a shot although I did shrink it down to 61" Thank you for
posting the plans, It got the wheels turning. I'll post some pics soon
