... out of a picooz tx with a 9v ac adapter. So I bought the adapter and had
everything ready to go and thought I would check the voltage first... Hmmm, over 13v on a 9v wall adapter. No wonder it was in the clearance bin for 99 cents. :O Oh well, I'll try another one tomorrow, but this time I will take my voltage tester with me and check it first.

check it under a load.

check it under a load.
I already did. :) It was still over 13 volts. :(

What kind of load?
Rob, did you check the load of the 9v adapter while it was plugged in to the tx, and the plane connected to the tx? (not that I'm recommending it.)

No, I didn't because I didn't want to blow up a perfectly good plane. The TX by itself has little load so the voltage is still very high (13v). A 6v adapter might do the trick, but I could not find one today that was not grossly over priced.
Rob
Could you post some pics of the 9v mod you did on the picoo Z tx?
I was actually worried about the tx blowing up with the voltage that high. Make sure you don't turn your tx on with the 9v supply plugged in, especially if the unloaded voltage is that high.
I'd like to see what power plug you used and how you wired it up. Maybe a description of how you wired things up would also be nice. The 9v mod in the sticky uses a power jack that is not very commonly used, and it uses the switch to switch the Pos. wire on and off. I was wondering what you used.
Thanks.

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4529474 $14.00 Walmart universal by powerline might be what you want. Mine is the 1000mA version instead of the 600mA on the link but it is very close to what ever voltage you choose with no load and comes with several tips to choose from. Plus you can use it on lots of other stuff.

You need to test it with an actual load on it. I dont know all the details as to why, but i can tell you that without a real load the voltage will be way off. I had two that were identical that were supposed to be 12v, with no load one was 9v, the other was 19v.... but with a 250ma load they both locked in right at 11 volts.... here is my old thread here http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=382473
