Hi,

I have an early Mark Allen built F3B Eagle with the 7003 airfoil. This one was built for racing at Davenport and handled racing in 50 mph winds just fine. Would it be a good ship to DS with?

Also, it has Futaba metal gear servos (around JR 341 size) in the wings. Will these handle DS flying or do I need to go to larger servos?

Fly'm if you Got'm,
Dave

PS: Also looking for a wing rod for the plane, do you know where I can get one? 14 mm carbon, with 4 degrees of dihedral.

one of these?

Doesn't look too bad. Just treat her gently for a while. Generally large amounts of wing bend is a bad thing! So if you see the wings bending lots then it is time to ping out or open the circuit up to reduce the loadings.

Just make sure all the hinges are good, slop free, and generally secure.

The only way you are going to be able to tell how good this model is in DS is to try it :-)

Hello Ade,

Yes, that is pretty much the one. I don't think wing bending is an issue. At 11 lbs (IE: lot's of lead added) you can crank the turns with very little flex!

R&R bought the design (and I guess "some" of the molds ;) ) but the one R&R is selling now (?) is the RG 15. Mine was built by Mark Allen or Ron Vann and is the earlier 7003. I have the RG 15 too, which is much "happier" in lighter lift. The 7ot3 really moves, but likes good lift to do it in.

I have not seen the R&R version, so I don't know if it is on par with mine. Rumor has it that they bought the design just to keep it off the market? Hope it is just a rumor...... the plane is sweet and fast :)

Regards,
Dave

PS: I have flown with Rich of R&R and he is a great guy. No insults intended towards R&R

If it is your first time down the back, get one of the "DS" foamies 56inch bluto seems to go pretty well.

then try something crunchy. From the sounds of it the Eagle sounds like it will do the job just make sure everything is tight and secure.
