I am glad you had a good time Keith. I know I would have if I had been there. Tell me if you will, I see several yellow hulls in Lee's booth what type hulls were they? Is that the color they are moulded?

In the picture from the front of the booth - what is the white tug hull third from the right and what is yellow hull at the very end of that group that looks like a sailing boat hull.

Just curious if they are scale ship yard and are they available?

It looks fun, but it would be a long trip.
Going to go

Smart, yes it is a baltic sea ice tug. The half Claudia is a great model as some other photos ( post tonight) will show it works. And it is a functioning r/c model!

Don, the color is what they were molded in at the time. There was a ketch, 1920's steam tug, and an ice tug. You would enjoy it. The show will be bigger next year as all that attended were quite pleased and the organizers will work harder to expand it!

Will be posting pictures of the contest boats later. They are on the home computer.

Rich, they are all Scale Shipyard hulls. To help clear things for all here is th front table starting line up from the left ( next to the drapped rail) as you view it:
41' sail boat, PC 1/48 Crocett hull, 105' WT tug in 1/48, Edmond J Moran semi kit 1/48, Intent tug semi kit 1/48, USS Mohawk tug 1/96, ketck hull (yellow), baltic sea tug 1/96, 1920's steam tug 1/96.

my mistake the ketch hull was by the sail boat hull.

The white sailboat hull, left most on the table looks interesting... I couldn't find it on the Scale Shipyard website though!

Is the yellow hull on the back table also a tug hull?

Don

Don, yes a spare 1920s steam tug.

Aero, the hull is one of 2 left from a prodject several years ago. Once they are gone-they will be no more. Not listed for that reason. The hull has no drawings to go with it , so the builder is on their own.

Last group of shots. most of these models all belong to tom Stevens of NW R/C Ship Modelers. tom is known for his attention to weathering--especially the decks. Also known to power with the "binford 10,000" series of motors! ;) :p

Glad the show was such a success, and thanks to Keith for his nice photos. Sorry to introduce a diversion in this thread, but it raises a query for me. Re Post #7 by Keith S, middle picture (000_0005.jpg). In the background is a black hull in building. Can anyone tell me what it is and name of the manufacturer? I am looking for a hull on which to build the luxury yacht shown in the attachment (ex tug Clyde, built 1957), and this is about as close as I have seen with respect to the bulwark outline. Does anyone have other suggestions for a suitable hull please? Dimensions of the 1:1 vessel are L 190'8"; B 36'10"; D 16'3.5".

Sorry - don't seem to be able to get photo to load. The critical thing is that the bulwark has three "steps". Photo I was trying to link is 1/2 way down the page at

kaskazi, that would be a medcalf mouldings hull of one of the eurapon salgage/ocean going tug.

Kmot, sorry no other pictures of the 47 MLB. :(

Don, not that hard to get photos when you get in before the crowds! :D ;)

Yeah I was pretty bummed out when it got cancelled in February! But I am glad it happened again. A shame it only happens once a year. But yeah I wanted to bout Scale Ship Yards T2 Tanker hull. I decided not to. If he had a Liberty Ship hull I would have bought it in half a heartbeat. Instead I bought an Airtronics 75 Mhz 4 channel radio for $75. Thats a good deal. Those are hard to find. In the contest boats I noticed that very big what looked like a houseboat with the barbie doll on the aft deck that was powered by a weed whacker engine! That was cool!

Tom:

I have a Liberty ship hull and fittings package in stock at my shop, the cost will be higher and it has to be shipped, but there will be very little wait.

The Sail boats on the front table of the Scale Shipyard display that my good friend Keith set up for me THanks Keith...I Owe Ya.

These hulls are all still in production, but we only make them in White now, I think I may have a Gray one somewhere.
The hull on the front table on the left is a 1"=1'-0" scale 36 foot Choi Lee, this comes as a hull only
(I also make a 3/4" scale 41' Swiftsure sailboat hull which is about 31" long)

The next hull (Yellow) is for a 34' Downeaster in 1/2"=1' scale
Then there is

1/4"=1' scale USS Asheville PG-84 hull & Plans

1/4"=1 scale 105 foot twin screw tug, Point Fermin, this was a
Wilmington Transportation Co. tug and is now Foss

1/4"=1' scale Edmond J. Moran, Moran Towing tug WW-2 era, this hull
comes with a deckhouse, pilot house, stacks and fittings
package.

1/4"=1' scale Tug Intent, not sure of the company, but I have seen
a really nice one in Moran colors, this is a 100' tug hull
this hull comes with the same type of package as the
E.J. Moran.

1/8"=1' scale USNS Mohawk T-ATF-169 class Hull & Plans

1/8"=1' scale 1920's steam tug, Hull & Plans

1/8"=1' scale Baltic Sea Icebreaking tug HUll & Plans

If anyone has any questions about the other hulls on the racks, please ask.

To answer a question that some people have e-mailed me

The hulls on the Back Rack are from top to bottom

IJN Yamato 1:96 scale 108" long with a 16 1/2" beam
USS West Virginia BB-48 1:96 scale 78" long.
KM Graf Spee 1:100 scale
KM Prinz Eugen 1:100 scale
USS Whidbey Island LSD-41 1:96 scale
C-2 Cargo Ship 1:96 scale
T-2 Tanker 1:96 scale

At the Time of Pearl Harbor the Yamato was the newest most powerful battleship in the Pacific, while the West Virginia was the most powerful battleship that the US Navy had in the Pacific.
The size comparison shown here is rather interesting.
