A few weeks ago, a 'club' member asked me to order a JJC sound module for him. He does not have internet and is not confident in his English abilities to order via the telephone.
So I called Harbor Models on a Monday and spoke with the owner, Dave. I asked him if he had a PE-308 module in stock, ready to ship. He put me on hold while he went to check his stock. He came back to the phone and told me distinctly, "yes I have the PE-308 module in stock". I placed the order for the module, and at the same time asked about placing an order for the Naval Gunfire slave module. He told me he did not have the Naval Gunfire module in stock, but he expected it in around 10 days or so. I told him to go ahead and backorder the gunfire module but ship the PE-308 (MTB) module right away as it was for a club member who needed it immediately. He said he would do so. I gave him all my information, credit card number, etc. After 30 minutes toll call on the phone the order was finalized. Or so I thought.
One week later (7 days) I had not received the PE-308 module. Even though Harbor Models is in SoCal and mail takes two days at the most. So I telephoned Harbor Models again and asked about my order. His first reaction was that he thought I was waiting for the product to come from England. I told him no, that only the backordered gunfire module was supposed to be the one I was waiting for and that the MTB module was supposed to be shipped immediately. After looking in his computer, he told me he had lost my information!
So I gave him all my information again (another toll call) and he said he would get on it right away.
Another week went by, and I had still not received the PE-308 sound module! So this time I e-mailed Harbor Models, explaining all the details of our two phone call conversations, the order placed, etc. And I asked him to please let me know what the problem was with me receiving my order.
No reply..............
So I call him a third time.
I asked him what the problem was. Why had he not responded to my e-mail. Where is my order? Do I need to order from Loyalhanna instead? He tells me he never saw my e-mail. While I have him on the phone, he searches his e-mail and finally sees my e-mail. He then tells me he does not have the PE-308 in stock and is waiting for it to come in from England! :censored:
This is after he had put me on hold the first time so he could check stock and he verified he had it in stock! I told him I did not mean to be rude, but I wanted to ask him "is this a part time job you do?" He said no, it is his full time business.
He asked me to give him a couple more days, and wait to see if the order from England would come in during that time. I said okay, I will wait. (This was on a Monday.) But I asked him to keep me updated via e-mail as to the status. I never heard from him again, via e-mail. On the following Saturday, the order showed up in my mailbox. The PE-308 master module and the gunfire slave module.
I was happy. At first. Then I looked at the PE-308 package and noticed it didn't look right. First, the module was loose in the package. Second, the heatsink was gouged and scratched. Third, the instruction sheet was wrinkled and torn. Fourth, the staple that keeps the package closed had obviously been removed, and then another staple put in at a different location. Fifth, the green connector plug that the speaker wires and battery wires attach to was missing! This was obviously a returned unit, that he had then shipped to me!
I telephone Harbor Models that same day, Saturday, again! I tell him the details of this item he sent me, and that I am returning it and want a NIB, unopened, complete kit in return. He blames the problem on his shipper and then says he will send me a new module on Monday. I sent the used module back to him Priority Mail on Monday. He received it Tuesday. I got this e-mail from him this morning:
Dear Mr. Keliher,
We have received the sound module that you returned to us. At this time, we have no replacement modules available and we do not have an availability report from the manufacturer for new modules.
We believe that we will not be a satisfactory supplier to you regardless of our efforts and therefore we are returning your money to you via check.
Sincerely,
Harbor Models.
So, it has cost me several toll call charges, a $7 shipping fee from Harbor, and a $4.05 return shipping fee. All to find out that Harbor Models is a waste of time.........
