View Full Version : Discussion RCAP v4 Suggestions

MX and Eladio's microcontroller work is making me think about the future feature sets of an integrated RCAP, WPS, AltHold (should that ever happen). If either gentleman alone or together contemplates bringing the RCAP project to the next level, here, you will find the "wish list". My first job will be to add 3D waypoints to RCAP v3 + AltHold via a third "mission control" microcontroller (as soon as the parts get here). A kludge? Yes; but a start. I hope neither gentleman is "off put" by this thread as it is not intended to push them into doing development that they don't want to do or do not have time to do. :)

Basic Assumption: The RCAP requires a platform stable in roll and pitch such as a airplane equipped with a FMA Co-Pilot or similar device.

Goal: Integrate RCAP, WPS, and AltHold into one PCB
Benefit: More room in fuselage, better overall functionality, 3D Waypoints

1. Feature: Integrate waypoint-sequencing logic into AltHold function.
Benefit: UAV can fly pre-programmed 3D routes (i.e. each WP has an altitude).

2. Feature: Add second NAV channel that is a user selectable percentage of the main NAV channel.
Benefit: User can add aileron to rudder for coordinated turns without using external mixer.

3. Keep barometer output for add-on OSD. Add GPS pass through connector.
Benefit: Maintain add-on capability with Inspire, Vizion and other OSDs

Jeff,

Clarification: What is the function of the second NAV channel?

Tom,

To make coordinated turns and to save on an external mixer to mix Aileron to Rudder (I like to split the PicoPilot's NAV output to 100% Ailerons and 40% Rudder to make a coordinated turn with the Telemasters).

That's a good idea. May I pirate it?

I have been considering an output that disables or moderates the leveler during turns.

Sure Tom... It's all here for free so we can all become better UAVers... :D

I'm sure learning a lot from you and your project!

Re: Turn off leveler... naw override it! One less variable.

I'll chip in, a photo firing device, at waypoints?? Or at preprogrammed intervals.

Two way telemetry and a groundstation, I'm not sure about the rest of the world but down here it is possible to transmit data over PMR radios, the little 500mW 446 ish frequency things. I know you have them in the states. APRS or rather soundcard packet integration would be a start. I have a pair of these radios and there range and quality never ceases to amaze me.

I know you can do all these things in different ways but it would be nice if it was all part of the same package.

I am afraid I can offer no skill except making the tea and coffee and making sure the beer fridge is working.

Ah yes I remember my skill, I'm the new guy that does not really understand it all that the manual will have to be written for. Person ic silly mistakes.

Anychance I could have a board for making the waypoints 3d?? Just as long as it plugs simply inline somewhere. Perhaps that should be part of the wish list. Easy plug in bits.

Oh I did forget one thing, the use of Bluetooth GPS they are so cheap they are almost throwaway now. (Under $40)
