Check it out tis is a work in progress I just completed the Alternator for my scratch built Hovercraft. It uses the Gas engine to provide the lift and 2 Electric Turbo Fans that Drive the Hovercraft forward and steer it. The Alternator puts out about 40V Current is un yet rated But I used 22ga. Wire in the coils so I hope to produce at least 2-5 Amps. Its unknown yet as I am still building the electronic regulator that drives 2 speed controllers which in turn control the turbo fans. Look closely at the engine but its water cooled. Handmade radiator and storage tank. With a water cooled head and exaust that I machined in my shop.

How big is the airframe?

Well, that's something you don't see every day ;) .

I noticed the "12F629-I/..." written on the board. What are you using the PIC for?

I bet that thing can tic-over real slow witht eh flywheel action of the magnet plate.

BTW, 40 volts at 5 amps would need 200 watts input power + losses. Can the OS 40 spare that much power?

Also, it there a reason the stator is offset from the magnet plate?

OS 40 should kick out about 8-900W at the shaft, so yes, probably..

But will there be enough watts left to get the hovercraft to hover AND work the alternator?

My first thought when reading the title was "backward outrunner", I was close it seems :)
It shouldn't be too hard to add a current limiter to safeguard the windings, and lighten the load on the engine at the same time.I think the engine will have power to spare, but will it generate enough pressure by driving a prop? Props are meant to move volume, not to generate pressure, and hovercraft s benefit more from pressure than from volume AFAIK.
