How can you tell when crystals go bad I was running ny boat today all was well and than nothing changed out the crystals and it worked does this mean you have bad crystals.

Well, it sounds like a reasonable assumption. Put the old crystal back in. If it still does not work, then bingo!

The crystal that usually fails is theRx crystal. This is simply because the RX is the part that is getting the abuse from the water, bouncing, vibrations and impacts (you see this alot in cars) Do as Kmot said and if that is the case then you have your answer.

P.S. if a LHS will allow you to use some of their known good crystals you may be able to find the bad one and only replace it.
