I know this is a bit of a long shot but would anyone have a copy of the British magazine "Model Aircraft" for January 1961.
If so, I would appreciate it if you could post (or send) a color scan of the front cover showing Doug McHard's Wee Snifter.
I am building an enlarged version for an OS 30 F/S and this would be useful to authenticate the color scheme I intend to use. Many thanks to johnvb for posting a scan of the plan and article. I now know the colors were orange, black and white.

I am flying a Wee Sniffer on electric. It does NOT glide at all. When power is off, it sinks like a rock, although slowly. It is super lightweight, so I have on explanation for the sinking feeling it gives me.

:eek::eek::eek:
My Father and i used to fly a Wee Snifter free flight many many years ago when i was young and a willing 'fetcher-mite'. Unfortunatly, it was one of the things that had to go when i moved from GB to the US.
Yes, if i remember rightly, the colour scheme my Father used was an orange fuselage and white wings (i think) and maybe a black tail

I do have the magazine in question plus the later one where Doug did an R/C single channel version in German WWII colours but not to hand unfortunately.
Hope you can make do with a pic of my 60" version in authentic red, black and white. I think you'll find that the orange may be due to printing colour dyes not the colour of the model.

paul, you should be banned for life with that pun.
Is this what this forum has descended into?

David Hipperson's rendition of the original colour scheme looks correct. But it is orange, not red on the cover.
I do have the magazine here and remember. I shall get it out in the next day or two to double check.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. David - the WW2 scheme sounds interesting. A photo of that would be great or even a magazine issue reference.
I have now decided to build a "Big Snifter" for my old OS 60 open rocker four stroke. Span will be about 72" and the enlarged plans are completed. Just have to find the time to start building it.

For anyone interested, here are a few shots showing the progress of my "Big Snifter" build. A long way to go yet but the distinctive shape is slowly emerging.
Span is 73" - about three times the original size.
The old Aeromodeller article states "Colour schemes are, of course, a matter of individual choice, but we think you will agree that the orange, black and white trim shown on the cover photo is most attractive"
I do agree and that is what I will, eventually, use.
