Folks, are any of you interested in a build log for a scratch designed and built 1:3 scale, eventually to end up as a fully molded, ASW22 with SLS?

Now, in saying that, I cannot show all the initial steps I took because I was not planning to show a build log so don't have all the fuse plug photos but I can show the end result of the fuse plug, mold and parts plus explain the process.

This aircraft is custom in every respect with a goal of making it as close to scale as is humanly possible. It includes a custom designed and operating double wheel retract based on the original design, not Fema or Hock type retracts, a close to scale SLS system, three piece wings to emulate the latest version of the Schleicher ASW22 with winglets etc. It is currently a prototype and as such also does not have a scale wing mounting solution but the fully molded version will.

The only large departure from scale is the implementation of a fully adjustable incidence stabilizer which I found to be very successful for the 10.3 meter Eta that I built. The design does however support the mounting of a fixed incidence stab if required.

Current state:
1). Fuse plug, mold and parts completed
2).Prototype foam/obechi stab created, now CNC machining molds for hollow molded
3). Prototype foam/obechi rudder created, now machining molds for hollow molded
4). Prototype Foam/carbon/obechi wings created, now creating 3D models of wing molds for hollow molding
5). SLS ready to install
6). Retract 3D model created and side plates CNC machined
7). Canopy plug ready for molding
8). All necessary bulkheads machined from carbon and ready to install

Now, I will warn you up front that the log will progress fairly slowly if you indicate you want to see it. I have many life and business events going on at this time which will cause progress to be relatively slow , so you’ll have to be patient.

Anyway, up to you guys.

Did you make the plug with a CAD->CNC process, or by hand?

How did you use the prototype foam rudder/stab/wings? Did you fly them on another fuse as a test, or will you use them as part of the CNC hollow mold process?

I would also be interested in the design of your "fully adjustable incidence stabilizer". Is it a full flying stab, or fixed with a screw type incidence adjustment?

You are building beyond my current experience, but I would enjoy seeing more of your work. A build thread in the RC Groups Scale Sailplane form would probably generate much more traffic: http://www.rcgroups.com/scale-sailplanes-122/

OK, I'l post it but I think I will try the scale sailplanes forum. Let me get some preliminary pics together and I will start next week.
