not a specific kind, I want to create a list of big electrics. 96" sounds good. I like all airplanes. Also 80" is not bad, not giant but big..

The ESM Beaver is nice. I'm considering getting one with floats myself. Available through various retailers all over the world.

Well my Unionville Hobby 96" Beaver wasn't electric but it will
be when I get it finished. Nice kit, really nothing to do to convert
it either. :)

Hi Folker:
I guess you may be correct, there ...
but us guys that like to play with big airplanes don't go to the parkflyer forums and tell those happy folks how cheap they are, do we now ??

The Graupner TAXI 2400!!!
http://www.hobby-lobby.com/taxi2400.htm
It's a heck of a lot bigger than the photos give it credit for and flies like a Cadillac.

I call all the CMP warbirds "giant" - (Even though they're about 72" on average.). I have the P-40

flies like a Cadillac
IMAA considers giant scale 80" span or 60" biplane.
smaller is okay as long as it's at least 1/4 scale replica of a real documented plane.

Two of my up coming elec conversions--a 76" Bucker Jungmeister from Hostetler plans & a 78" Starduster from Dario Brisiglalia plans.
Jungmeister is detailed from an existing full scale in the UK

If I could afford $660 battery packs I'd be flying turbine jets instead.

In some cases Lipos may not be the battery of choice, especially when having to deal WW 1 aircraft and other planes that tend to be tail heavy. Round cells will do nicely, thank you and are more than rugged enough as well as supplying the needed weight to counter a tail heavy plane.
I have been contemplating the Balsa USA Fokker D V111 for my first giant scale and I will be using NiMh batts for power. As for a power plant there are so many options available in either outrunner or inrunner with a gearbox, but a good solid outrunner usually does the trick such as an Axi, Hyperion, Plett , Astroflight even Hacker has some new large outrunners. I just bought their A50-12S for my Citabria.

Thanks, it is fabric covered but no dope, it's painted with waterbased paint. Guess I'll have to buy a new battery for it and fly it!

I have the PacificAero 78" Tiger Moth. It has been flying under electric power since 2002. She's powered by an old Aviox Sport 40 with a 5:1 belt drive turning a 20X10 prop on 8s4p TP Lipo's. It flies very nicely. Hobby Lobby is coming out with a new and much improved version of the same ARF later this year. (they were showing it at SEFF).
I also just picked up a framed up Balsa USA 1/3 Cub on Edo floats. I expect it to fly equally as well on 2000-2500 watts turning a 24" prop.

I was thinking of building a BUSA Ercoupe, has anyone seen the quality of this kit?

Ahhh, let's see someone did a build and published it in Model Aviation, I believe, and it included Sea Commander floats. I believe there were a few pices of balsa which were replaced, but what do you expect anymore what with the Asians buying up as much balsa as they can for their ARFs. All in all though, one can expect generally balsa as good if not better than many other kit mfgs. Although Sig is quite finicky about balsa as well.
I have seen a number of BUSA kits in the box and they always look very good.So don't hesitate to purchase a BUSA kit. Be forwarned in those large cartons lurks a lumberyard of balsa.LOL. cheers johnz

As far as I know, there has never been a bad Balsa USA kit. I've never read of one, anyway.

Thanks John and Justin. The ercoupe is one of their most expansive kits, but it is suppost to be loaded with scale details. I think I'll get it and put it away until next building season.
