I am thinking about getting a sim. Seems like most like the G3.
Whats with all the expansion packs and add ons?
Do you need them?
If I got them all, it would end up being real expensive.

For the most part the add-ons and expansion packs are more aircraft and airports. If you go to http://knifeedge.com/ on the left side of the page is a list of the add-ons and expansion packs and what they do. You don’t NEED the add-ons or expansions to run the software.

I agree. You don't need them, especially at first. But they are nice for later when you've explored the basic stuff. I haven't bothered with the earlier add-ons, but I have bought the two Expansion Packs and consider them worth while.

Take a look at the models included in each pack. If there's a plane or heli you want or need to fly, get THAT expansion pack. I've got a U-Can-Do 3D at home, so I made sure to get the EP that included it.
A few of the user-created planes and variants on the Knife Edge swap pages are based on EP planes, and you'll need the base plane to fly the variant. When you're downloading the free planes, take note of any aircraft requirements listed so you'll know if you have the base plane or not.
Besides, "expensive" is a relative term. G3, all 7 expansions, and the computer I fly them on all total cost less than the last plane I built, and I got to put in PLENTY of sim hours on a model that flew very close to the real thing.... made the maiden flight much more comfortable.

By wearing out the little red button I know I've saved thousands in crash and repair bills.

I fly with throttle and ailerons on the right and rudder, elevator on the left sticks. WHat mode is that? Are modes interchangable on the realflight?

Thanks for that. Now I just have got to convince myself to by realflight and not a motor or batteries or one of those nice 63V jazz controllers... Doh!
