View Full Version : Careful! UH order process hits and missses

Well I was hoping to post about a positive experience with UH, but it looks like YMMV by a big margin. This was my first attempt of an order with UH.
I placed an order on Feb. 19th for all in-stock items. Up until this morning the status was showing as packed but not posted. Well this afternoon I look and it's back to packing slip "not yet printed." I look at the details and one of the items is now on backorder. Ugh :censored:!
I had emailed them Sunday night about the status of my order and have heard nothing back. Now I emailed about canceling my order and am holding my breath to see what happens. I'm giving them 24 hours to respond before I take it up with PayPal (at the very least I can complain loudly to them).
I'm sorry, but this kind of service won't win me as a customer. Saving a few bucks is not worth the possible aggravation. And the fancy stock system isn't worth squat if it can't be trusted.

-Max

You have noticed that they were closed for over 1 week due to Chinese New Year?
I placed an order on the 20th that was shipped today. I am sure that they have a lot of e-mails to deal with right now. Give them somewhat more time to get to your e-mail message.
I've ordered already over 10 times with them and am very satisfied by their service, shipping and pricing!

Yes I noticed they couldn't ship anything until the 22nd (they never actually said they'd be closed BTW). I'm not sure what that has to do with them apparently selling items that I had already ordered. My order was even in the "waiting to be posted" queue for a while, and then got pulled out of there.
If they screwed up their stock, fine, mistakes happen, but give me a refund or give me the option of canceling the out of stock item online. Just keeping my money w/out notice is borderline criminal.
I'm glad you're satisfied. Like I said, YMMV.

I agree on you with that: I've had some similar experiences with a European vendor who kept my money for almost 3 months.

Well I got a prompt email response about my cancellation request about 3 hours ago. Following a paragraph blaming my spam blocker for "great difficulty

I think the problem with SPAM blocking is at their end. I got a replied

it from their Norton Spam filtering box.

I've been reading up on these guys and they seem a bit slow and somewhat unreliable at times but not fraudulent and, though they are not responsive and their emails are not well written or descriptive, they do seem to get things sorted out ultimately, even if it takes a while. End result being: don't buy anything if you're in a rush, but if you don't mind waiting a bit, some of their stuff is worth buying. I personally will have to order some of their $4 servos which everyone is raving about.

What I find amazing in these UH threads is the incredible lack of patience of most of the people with "problems".
People want rock bottom prices and still expect someone waiting about to deal with their problems immediately.
I think UH needs a banner on the home page to the effect that "those with the patience of a 2 year old, please don't order". If nothing else it would keep some of these "warnings" off RCG and allow UH to stop wasting time which could be spent dealing with others' orders.

Mar 02, 2007, 03:28 AM
Magrat, I made a post very similar to yours some time back -- and then had an order sit in the "printed" queue for two weeks (all items in stock) while those of others were printed, packed shipped and delivered all around me.
I don't mind waiting a while to save a few dollars -- but there seems little point in paying extra for Express Shipping (EMS) if the order takes several weeks to make it from the printer to the packer.
I placed another order the other night and will be posting the progress in another thread so we can see how long it takes on a day-by-day basis.
A week to ship, that's tollerable, two weeks... ? Well that's about the time I start getting a little concerned -- especially when all items were in stock at the time the order was placed but you then get a message (two weeks later) saying that some are now backordered and your stuff will be shipped when the stock becomes available.
If UH can get back to the way it was when I first ordered, then I'll be 100% behind them and recommend them to all who ask. I'm now engaged in an objective test of their performance so they're in control of how that turns out.
maximal
Mar 02, 2007, 03:42 AM
I think you miss the point Magrat. I was prepared to wait a month for my in stock items to be delivered. What I don't have patience for is the "now it's in stock, now it's not" game. There are documented cases on this forum where an order becomes in permanent limbo because something is always out of stock. I ordered in-stock items and that's what I expect, regardless of the price. Apparently that's too much for this 2-year-old to expect from UH so I will take my business elsewhere from now on.
Cheers,

Max,
I know the point, been reading these threads for more than a year. There has been enough explanation by UH to workout the warehousing and order system. The main problem they have is people can order faster than the system seems to be able to update the web DB.
My longest wait approx 6 weeks (three different items were out of stock, order was completed when last one arrived, can watch the items being selected in your order list), shortest 5 days. Didn't go for the big dummy spit as countless e-mails justs wastes everyone's time, causes confusion and I have patience.
Don't believe the perpetual loop bit because items are queued for picking and packing. It would be possible to wait for more than one restock cycle if your position in the queue was greater than the restock number.
Definitely not a place for you to shop.
fly4fun
Mar 02, 2007, 08:52 AM
Here is my theory. I will wait up to a month for my Order without contacting UH. After a month I will try contacting Via E-mail before posting to the public boards. I'm prepared to wait it out for these rock bottom prices. UH have given me the option to fly larger scale aircraft without selling the house. At these prices you could order extra stuff to have on hand for future projects. Thats what I'm planning on doing.

I have the same problem, my order is in the warehouse awaiting packing slip. Over 3 weeks today, and everything is in stock.
My first few orders were great, so for now I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.
Holding off for at least for another week, upon which time it will unfortunately become my first ever complaint to paypal :(

A couple of my orders stalled in the warehouse. I sent a polite reply to the order confirmation e-mail for that order (that way all the required info was in the body of the mail) asking if there was an issue. Received a reply back within an hour on both occasions explaining the hold up and updating the dispatch date. In both cases the order left as advised.

Hello everyone.
We are super sorry for the email delays. Janice is working overtime in answering them and any staff member who can speak english (well enough) is pitching in to help until the 2 new CSO's finally get the hang of replying and sorting out issues at which time they can take over (3 days from now maximum).
We are seeing a wait tim of around a few days for reply's.
What the delays?
We started some new advertising, and it worked a little too well. Orders outstripped our ability to get the stock in fast enough before and just after the Chinese new year.
We should be completely back on track by the 19th of this month.
If you have waited 'long enough' please give us a call and we can sort your order out instantly.
Because of the lengthy wait times, we have no quams in giving upgrades on out of stock items.

If you use Outlook and have your SPAM filter on it tends to see messages from UH as SPAM so you never see the e-mail unless you check your junk mail folder.
Simple fix is to find a message from UH, Right Click select "Junk E-Mail" and then select "add Senders Domain to safe senders list" From that time on Outlook will let them through.
The other issue is that UH seem to have a very hyper active spam filter that blocks e-mails based on a number of things such as multiple sends in a fixed period, if an Address in your Class C has been reported for Spaming (there are 256 addresses in a class C so one bad apple kills lots of people)
Glad you got it sorted out

I just hope my order is not going to have these problems. I just ordered last week & this is my first order with UH. I have kept track of UH on these forums & decided I would gamble. Everything I ordered showed "in stock". I just checked it & it does keep showing progress. Not shipped yet but progress none the less. Also I checked all of the parts I ordered & they are still showing in stock. I hope it gets mailed out ASAP. There are a few things there that I am anxious to check out.

I hope so. I think that from what I have read, the good does seem to outweigh the bad with your company. That is the reason I placed my order. If you take care of me, I will keep ordering. Your prices are great. The one big issue I have is with you being out of stock on A LOT of things. And, I know that that can't all be blamed on the new year thing. I have watched these forums & your web sight for quite a while. That being out of stock thing is one MAIN reason why I have almost quit shopping with BP Hobbies. I think that if it's something that is out of stock for a while that it should be removed from the web sight until you know you are going to have more in. I have never run a web sight so, I have no idea of how much a pain that would be but, it would help the customer IMO. I gotta tell ya, your price on the BA 2.5 servo is the best I have found yet. I have evn contacted the manufacturer about ordering direct. I just hope your 135mAh cells are as promissed. Since you quit getting the full river 130. I just want you to know UH, that I appreciate you staying active on here.

Yes, we have an inbox full of harsh emails from the B.A. sales manager asking us to increase the price. We bought a few thousand, and may not buy them again ever, so we wont be twisted into raising prices on them.
They are not a great seller anyway.

Not a great seller? Why? I know BA is not the best equipment, quality wise but for the money they are good. I have 4 planes with their 3.6 gram & 4.3 gram servos & I like them. I have 3 friends that have the 2.5s & they seem to be good. The only reason I have waited as long as I have to order them is because of their price compared to the rest of the BA line. I mean, if you shop around enough, you can pick up the 4.3s for around $5 or so a piece. Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to respond on here. Things are looking good to me.

I'm in the same boat, so to speak. Order (#20012847) date is 3/8, but it is still "unposted". All items in stock. I presume they are still playing catch up from the new year?
It's only 6 servos and a couple of prop savers, so I'm not wigging out or anything. Just curious.

I just got my order from UH today! I was very impressed! It went from the day I placed the order to being received in just over a week. I had read most of these threads & decided to make sure everything I ordered had a large # in stock. I don't know if that was it but, I got it fast. Everything was packaged well & everything was exactly as ordered. If the batteries perform as advertised I got a very good deal too. I will definitely order from them again. I think they were almost as fast as some of the places I have ordered from here in the states & faster than some. The ONLY gripe I have is some of the things I want are out of stock. I hope they remedy that. Good job UH!

I ordered on 2-28-07 which I believe was on a Wednesday. Oops, I guess it took a total of 13 days. I guess that is closer to 2 weeks. Oh well. Depends on whether you count weekends or not. I don't really. Anyway, by the next day it showed PAID. By Friday it showed the packing slip had been printed & by that following Monday it showed it had been "dispatched". On Tuesday I forgot to check but, by Wednesday it showed "posted". I assume that meant shipped. It took a little longer for that whole process than some of the people I have dealt with here, namely Aeromicro (the fastest shipper I have dealt with on more than 1 occassion), or BP. But, I considered the fact of the Chinese New Year I kept hearing about & the obvious volume of ordering & I forgive them for the extra time. I was most impressed it got here from the time they said posted to my door in 1 week. Hong Kong is a long way from here & it had to exchange from their post office to ours. Faster than getting things from Canada in my experience. The longest shipping I have encountered was something I won off feebay from Russia. It took more than a month. Has to be brought over on a boat unless you pay outrageaous shipping charges, I understood. That is it on my order. IMPRESSED! AWESOME prices!

I have ordered several times from UH and am very impressed. They forgot to send me a motor ESC combo once. I sent them an Email and they replied in 36 hours and shipped it immediately, no questions asked! That's some good customer service I'd say. Granted the response was a bit delayed, but they corrected for it appropriately.
There is one thing about ordering though, they often take a month to ship on larger orders. By the way THEIR LIPOS ARE AWESOME!! I still can't believe the performance or the price.

I'm not too impressed by UH at all.
Ordered a motor n esc on 21/01. Items were out of stock. Sent them email, they replied stock will be in 03/03. 03/03 send them a reminder, they say stock delay and they will send out the esc which was in stock on 06/03. 08/03 they sent another email say order printed and will be sent out within 48hrs.
12/03 checked website status, the esc was put on backorder again!!! Sent email on 13/03 to demand for explaination. No reply. 14/03 called up n spoke to Janice, she gave a "I dont know" kind of answer. Push blame on warehouse n priority!!!
I ordered in Jan 07 n when esc stock arrived in Feb, shounldnt it be reserved under my order!!! Now they wana send it to me, tell me no stock. What kind of sick ppl does business tis way!!!
No choice but to wait till 28/03 which sje said stocks will be in. U guys judge for urself on UH. Totally unprofessional in business dealings.

There has been enough explanation by UH to workout the warehousing and order system. The main problem they have is people can order faster than the system seems to be able to update the web DB.After a bit of email communication with UH, I think I have finally figured it out. I'm not sure what the previous explanations might have been for the system, but the point of confusion for me was the "Realtime Stock Level" label that appears next to the number on each SKU page.
Most of us would probably think, hey, that's the current unclaimed number available within some reasonable update time (technically, for it to be Realtime, it should be a Very Short Time). At the time of my last single part order, there were 52 units in stock. Over the next ten days or so, I watched that number slowly dwindle, then hit zero, then go negative. This got me curious (okay, that's the nice way to put it) so I started communicating with UH about it. The first notice I got back was, hey, your part is backordered.
??? It was wayyy in stock!
After a few more emails, I realized the Realtime label had fooled me: that stock level is utterly meaningless -- it reflects an update not from the order system, but from the warehouse Not Including Current Unshipped Orders. I still have no idea what the cycle time is.
In other words, it is not even close to Realtime.
Now that's not a huge problem with me; it just means that the stock numbers are literally meaningless, and there's no point in ordering based on what you see in the stock levels. Because of this, a negative number doesn't mean the stock is out, either. It may have been there for days (they have admitted to this kind of information lag).
That's my current understanding of the system. Jibe with yours?
Bottom line though is order duration is completely unpredictable from perhaps five days to fifteen weeks or so. As long as we all know that, things should be fine.

Interesting,
When I orderd my last item (Eagle Tree expander) there was one(1) showing as being in stock. I placed my order recieved the confirmation e-mail from UH and the site showed zero (0) in stock about a miunte after the order was confirmed (paid).
I should also point out I had watched the stock level drop from around 8 down to 1 in a 10 minute period.
I have noticed this in the past as well with any item that I order. As soon as my order is accepted the stock is number is reduced by the amount I ordered.

Michael,
Maybe it's because you're closer to Hong Kong and the electrons don't have to travel as far.
The last order just got weirder. But before we get into that, I forgot to point that that my order said "IN STOCK" all along (you know, when you go to look it up from your account). There was no immediate decrement (there were in fact 52 showing in stock when I ordered, and it stayed that way for about a day).
The order still shows UNPOSTED status on my account. However, it just arrived in the mail. This is perhaps a bit more of a titsup than I originally expected, so I guess it's not very reperesentative.
Still, the email communication I got clearly stated that an item showing in stock does not mean there actually is stock available. So here's what I think I know at this point:
Not much.

As an amusing update, my canceled and refunded order has been "posted" for over 2 weeks, including a tracking number-- which doesn't track at HK Post. Apparently their system doesn't have a "canceled" status for orders? I got an email update March 4th with the tracking number and what looked like some administrative notes including "cannot contact customer." Have no idea how they decided they can't contact me, since I got and replied to every email, not to mention that they had my phone #.
I do hope they get it all straightened out at some point :)

Yes same thing with me I have two orders from 2/27 that have shown all in stock for days but are still not posted or sent to warehouse, Now one item is backordered shouldn't back orders be filled first ? First in first out ? I have been patient but their inventory control needs some work.
Why are they ordering such small amounts of items that are obviously sold before they get them ? I think they should worry less about expanding their product line and get their existing orders filled. Not real happy but I will hang in there a little longer.

Dave,
Not sure but being in the ame time zone is pretty handy when it comes to getting responses.
I do recall the first order I placed took some time to get through all the initial processes (3 - 4 days???) but all the later orders seem to just go straight through. I pay with paypal at the time I order so don't know if you are doing something different or not. My Paypal account has been around for a number of years and all my info is "verified" and my postal address and billing address are the same.
The process from my side is:
1) Complete order and Checkout
2) Select Paypal as the payment method
3) Get redirected to Paypal - login and confirm payment
4) Get redirected back to UH
I then receive trhe following

Yes same thing with me I have two orders from 2/27 that have shown all in stock for days but are still not posted or sent to warehouse, Now one item is backordered shouldn't back orders be filled first ? First in first out ? I have been patient but their inventory control needs some work.
Why are they ordering such small amounts of items that are obviously sold before they get them ? I think they should worry less about expanding their product line and get their existing orders filled. Not real happy but I will hang in there a little longer.
After talking to whoever from UH (can't remember the name) I can tell you that there were some serious problems during the Chinese New Year & shortly before & after. My order I had such good luck with was placed just after that time. I can't give any advice about what to do other than maybe cancel & then re-submit? Sounds like that has worked for some people. I can tell you that they are not ordering small quantities. It is the manufacturer having problems meeting the demand for a lot of these more popular products. Plus, I am guessing because of the low prices, the demad is so high. And I agree with the "real time in stock" thing. It seems to be a joke.

Michael:
We're using exactly the same system. In fact, the process you described was identical to my first two orders. Then: blooie! The fit hit the shan. Order 3 sat unposted for almost 10 days, then this.
I sent an email yesterday explaining that my last order ("Unposted") actually arrived (this is the one that was also "Backordered") and that they might want to change that status or someone in the warehouse might accidentally ship one when the stock does come in. As of the end of business today, it was still "Unposted."
I bet they're having a horrid time right now. Hopefully it will all get straightened out, but until then I suspect we're all going to have to bear with rather random delivery.

Similar situation for me but with a good resolution. My order was filled but not marked as posted since last week. Yesterday I sent an email and Janice responded saying the order was just posted. Got a tracking number and now it's listed as posted on the website.

I got my last order placed on 03/12/07, got an email saying order was shipped on 03/14/07. Right after I placed order I sent an inquiry about some spare parts for the items ordered (ducted fans) and reply from them was saying only that nothing can be added to the order since it is going to be shipped next day.
OK I said and waited for the original order.
Guess what? Order showed up today with STAMP on the package saying 03/26/2007 meaning it was sent few days ago and not on the 14th as shipping confirmation says in the email from Janice.
They just lost one customer.

The shipping process may not be the best but I sure love those prices.

I am sorry but some of you must have stock in UH ( just kidding) but people expect when a company says it's in stock to ship even if it takes three weeks or more. I feel the problem is in thir speed in posting to thie inventory sales to see what is and isn't in stock each day. I have been waiting for three weeks just to see if my order has been posted and received an email from them two days ago saying posting was done and shipping would be shortly. I went to site put in my order number and still can't find post that was about an hour ago dated 4/4/07.
I asked for a refuns and wanted to cancel my order because I found some of the items almost same price but would receive them within two weeks. I am still waiting to hear if they canceled my order yet!!
I am generally a paitent person but some times enough is enough. It seem a lot of people have complained about their shipping so in future I don't think I will order anymore. Sorry just my own opinion.

Well, first I waited about 7 days for them to package up a motor and some props and ship them, now its been 8 days since it was listed as shipped and still havn't gotten anything- bit slow for a few items that were in stock, but I see other people have waited a lot longer... My first order was fine and relatively quick, this one is pretty slow.
Edit- I clicked the tracking number, and it says it left HK on March 31, but UH says they shipped it on the 28? Dosn't quite sound right..

My first package arrived after quite a while.
I ordered my first backordered item the other day. "Factory estimates" that they will be in stock today. I'm not holding my breath.

Personally I think that it isn't UH's fault for that date discrepancy. From what I've observed from other people and my order, that is about right. I think it takes a couple of days in the Hong Kong postal system for stuff to get posted. I believe the web page only gets updated when the parcel LEAVES the Hong Kong postal system.
As for tracking past the HK postal, I couldn't get status of the parcel in the US postal system till AFTER I had received and signed for it.

Guz is correct about the Tracking System. Once it leaves HK there is no further tracking.

What is the average shipping time to the US? Ordered 3/3, shipped 3/18 and has still not arrived on 4/6. Is this normal, or is someting wrong?
I tried tracking through the USPS, but no luck.

I would pick up the phone and call UH. I have made 3 orders with UH and once they have left Hong Kong it took 7 days to arrive at my house.

Wow
So far I have excellent luck with United.
First order was a motor, was picked and packed in less than a hour. I received it in a week.
Just ordered again a half hour ago and already it is in the warehouse picking queue. So far so good.
I think some of the problems may be due to everybody suddenly finding this company. And their business has skyrocketed

Well we will see how well it works now.
I just realized that the esc I was ordering had a cut off voltage that was so high. That with the battery I am using it would shut right off. And it can't be set any lower !
I tried their online. Which always seems to be off-line. Due to the time difference. Left a few messages and e-mailed them, that way to cancel my order. And also sent a PM thru this site.

OK
Had no luck with their On-Line talk to me now. Even though they were obviously open at the time I tried. It was 12:45 PM their time.
Tried numerous e-mails, no reply yet.
Tried PM thru RCGroups, no reply yet.
Called them, yeah longggg distance. Got a customer rep right away. She tried to give me a store credit. But I told her I wanted a refund. She said it would take 2-3 days. No problem. Now we will see what happens.
Checked this morning on their site and saw the following in my information..
Order Messages;
Customer request to cancel the order and refund. 28/4 By Janice
Maybe they are not so bad after all ?
But the other contact method areas need to be addressed !

I've placed my second order with UH and I've got to say they offer great prices with acceptable customer service. Not a great one but quite OK...You just haven't got to be in a hurry ;)

I wasn't in a hurry to get my brushless motor. And they got it to me pretty fast. But i clicked on the buy button before I checked out the specs on the esc controller better.. My mistake..

Update on my service
Promised refund on Wednesday. It was in PayPal Wednesday morning.
Reordered some more cool stuff. To bad they don't have a USA store, so we could get the stuff even faster. You just can't beat their prices !

Here's a good one. I have three orders in. Two are "Posted" and the last "Unposted." The first two have been posted for almost two weeks, but the unposted (and most recent) one got here yesterday...
