It is a shame more guys don't want to build. There is nothing better than going out to the field with a unique model.

Hi James, I agree with you. I love to build. I used my landing gear on this model and I'll need to order another one.

My LHS opperator really liked your landing gear so I gave him your web site and told him to call you, and that you always needed more vendors. His name is Robert and he has the Hobby Town in our city. Great guy as you are also.

Thanks everyone! I drew it up on my computer and cut each part out with a razor but I guess you could say it's scratch built. Hey James, Maybe we need to kit this one! :D (SS Spider) Would be yet another model in your fleet. Would be great to have a laser cut kit. It looks and fly's great.

Short for Dalton's Designs. I had to come up with something that no one else had. I had been logging on for a year just to keep up with this thread and at SEFF this past year you said that I should Register so I can join in. So in July I did. At SEFF the year before I had just started in the hobby and that is when I bought the SSX from you and you were just getting in the vendor business. I remember how unsure Karen was until all your kits sold in minutes. That's the year the dog wondered off and we had to go find him. :p Fun times at SEFF.

My first post on this thread was #1167. I added a couple of pictures of other planes I built yesterday to that post.

Thanks for being such a positive influence when I was just getting started and thanks for your welcome now. :)

Looks Great!

I noticed that your wing is pretty far back. The plane flies better if you have the wing 5"-5.5" from the front; measure from the tip of the fuselage to the leading edge of the wing. CG can be 1"- 1.5" behind the spar. Having the wing as far back as it is will make the plane pitch sensitive.

Great looking plane. Photo makes it look as though you are using flaps. If so,
how much deflection, and do you mix with elevator? I'd be interested in a comment or two about how it flies and reacts.

Thanks, John in VA

The SSX works great with Flaps mixed with elevator. Loops get very tight and landing can be very short. I do not recommend more than 30 degrees of flap.

here is my SSX, just got is this past week, it's covered in Sig Koverall and nitrate dope, it's powered by a BP Products BP 2217-9, CC Phoenix-25, Master Airscrew K Series 10x5, Kokam 3S-2000 LiPo. It weigh's in at 30 oz, 6 oz above the recommended weight, but it fly's great, the additional weight will help in the wind. About 5 flights so far to get everything dialed in.

Can't wait until the Big-Bipe comes out! ka-mon James get with it!

The ARF is a complete airframe. No parts are required from a donor Slow Stick. The PARF is what you would order if you want to upgrade a Slow Stick.

Thank you for your interest in Millennium R/C

James,

Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know my SSX is flying well. I usually fly with the camera but took it off tonight to do a few aerobatics with it. It really is fun to fly and a great step up from the stock stick. I was in Orlando for the Nation Buisness Aircraft Association Convention last week and had a chance to stop by Graves Hobby Shop what a treat! I even managed to find a couple more of the X-Gear to take home with me! Thanks again for a great product.

I just completed my nite stick build and have enclosed some pictures. This is my first balsa build and covering and it went well. Thanks James for a wonderfull upgrade kit that extends the life of my old trusty slow stick! Like all.. I agonized over how to add running lights to the horizontal stabilizer and tail. I wanted to share an approach I used. I used 1/4 inch OD plastic tubing and slit the inside diameter of each piece that ran along the stabilizer and tail conforming to the curves. It served to hide the wires and provided mounting support for the LEDs. Just wanted to share if anyone else finds this usefull.

Looks Great! You should move the wing more forward. CG can be as far back as 1" from the spar. Optimum distance from the leading end of the fuselage to the leading edge of the wing is 5.25”.
The position you have it is will cause the plane to be pitch sensitive.

theay should call the ssx the super stick X,the guys at the field could not believe the performance. one guy thought his gws was fast untill he saw mine.I talked him into upgradeing the wing to the ssx one. I love mine so much that when I damaged the wing I ordered a new plane I'm rebuilding the old one with lights and water floats as a winter project. but uintill then I needed one to fly.I went to the neat fair and saw the new mini prototype that will do a knife edge. I'll preorder that one. Tim from CT

I just installed light tubes in my wing, I was going to rewrap it, but instead I attached the tubes to a small piece of carbon fiber, I applyed a small amount of thick CA to the end before slideing into the wing, it made for fast install.I'm going to order 1 more for the rudder.

Hi James,

I ordered an ARF from your site this week. I cannot wait to get it and start the assembly.

I'm rather new to R/C flight and I have been flying a GWS Slow Stick as well as putting in some sim time. What can I expect from the SSX when compared with the SS? Do I need to be an expert in the ss or will I be able to fly it right away? Will my stock 400 motor setup be competent enough for the SSX or an investment into brushless hardware is mandatory?

I hope I will not destroy it in the first outing...

JStone is correct; I have flow the SSX on the stock power system and stock battery. I took some skill to keep it flying. You can see some video of that flight in post #1. I did not try the stock setup with a lipo. It would be better if it were lighter.
