I am building a sp400 fun flyer that uses the Sure Flite 1/2A Pete foam wing and a balsa fuse, see pic. I started out with the motor/GB from a Soar Star {$18 } and 8x600AE. With this combo the plane flew pretty well but you could tell it wanted to go a little faster. The best prop I found was the APC 7x5. Anything bigger pulled too many amps { over 10 } and anything less the performance suffered.
I then pulled out the original motor and installed a new 6v sp400 direct drive. The first flights have just been finished and the performance is much improved. The plane will fly much faster now which seems to suit the wing better. Part throttle flying is now possible whereas before with the GB anything less than WOT and the plane would not maintain altitude.
I have one issue I would like some advice on. If I trim the plane to fly level at WOT the plane then dives when I reduce the power requiring a couple of clicks of trim. The elevator is app 1/8" up at the tip for level flight.
Should I;
Add some more down thrust?or
Raise the leading edge of the wing? or
Lower the leading edge of the Hor stab?
The CG seems pretty close now.
RePete specs:
20 oz w/8x600ae
36" span
app 280 sq in.
Aileron - Elevator
Thanks
Ray
