Is it possible to remove the counterweight from a pager motor? I have a half-dozen old pagers I'd like to use the motors from. Problem is, I'm afraid to put too much energy into trying to pull those things off because I'm afraid I'll bend the shaft. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
John Terrell

Been a while since I saw one. If the weight is pressed on you might could use a mini pinion puller. An alternative would be to take a Dremel with cutting wheel and carefully cut the weight . Of course you would need to keep the dust out of the motor.

I used to use these for BEAM robots. Chuck the motor up in a vise by the offset weight. Then get a small piece of music wire the same or smaller diameter than the motor shaft and use it as a punch to push the shaft out of the offset weight.
Oh yeah, and have something underneath to catch the motor when it comes out.

Thanks for the hints, guys. I was thinking the only way to get some of those motors is to buy them online. I'll post something when I get them set up.
Thanks again,

Take a big pair of Vise Grips and grab the counterweight across the flats and SQUEEZE HARD. This will deform the counterweight enough to usually allow the motor shaft to fall out or be pulled out with little force.

I second the pliers/vice grips, works a charm for me too.

Get an axle from a smaller motor, and clamp the counterweight at an angle, also clamping the smaller axle into it, pushing out the good motor!
