i'm currently getting back into RC air and have a super skybolt and FS-91 coming, but i haven't flown in 15 years..........Mode I is engrained into me since my first days of flying, yes back in the late 60's as a kid.

i'd hate to go out and plaster my new bird right off, so i've decided to either get something like and ugly stik or the 40 size super sportser, or will these new generation simulators give me the feedback to get my fingers working again?

in a word yes - I went from Mode 1 to Mode 2. In still in the early stages wanted to do things in mode 1 (learn't responce) but with time I can now without thinking about what I need to do next.
get a good sim - Ask the questions and im sure you will pick things up again.

Yes, the new simulators are really good. If you practice with them in a disciplined way, i.e. really practice not crashing and being in control as much as you would need to be in real life, and practice with wind and gusts and turbulence turned on, then it should get you pretty close to being able to handle a model in real life. At least that's been my experience with Phoenix RC.

I mention the discipline part because I found when I first got a sim that it's pretty easy to get into bad habits, by allowing myself to crash a lot, since it doesn't cost anything. Now anytime I crash, and especially if I crash a heli into myself, I try to imagine what that would have been like in real life, and make sure I do what's necessary to not let it happen again.

Why would you want to convert from Mode 1 to Mode 2? I'm a mode 2 pilot and am thinking of converting to mode 1 as it seems to be prefered by the top pilots as it is better for accurate input during rolling harriers etc.

thx for the replies..........i was almost set to buy another (smaller) plane for training purposes, but i also remember the last time i got out and back into flying and how quickly i became bored to death with sport plane that i bought soley fro refreshing my feel.

i was a kid back in the late 60's and was fortunate enough to actually take a lesson from Phil Kraft in case any of you remember that name......my first pattern model of course after that was the Flea Fli +10 (Midwest models kit version of Phil's) that was a down scaled version of Phil's famous (back then) Kwik Fli.
all the top flyers of that era (with the exceptio of a couple) were Mode 1.
Mode 1 is for me easier when doing rolls or immelmans.
