Weighed the finished plane and tips the scales at 62.5oz without noseweight. It looks like it will need a bit to balance at the suggested CG, hopefully not more than .5-1.0 oz. Btw, the empty airframe was 1349g (47.6oz).

What are others coming in at?

Got two Supras. #2 is 1885g and #1 is about 90g more. Both weights are flying weights. Both Supras are full carbon.

I have heard similar weights posted for those with the full carbon version, not quite sure why mine is coming in so light. I'm sure I won't be adding more than an ounce to get it to balance, which would put my auw at 63.5 oz.

I'll post my gear setup:

Model #251 (full carbon version)
(4) 1400 nimhs
5125's on the ailerons
368's for the flaps
368's for rudd/elev
JR 790 rx (synth is really cool)

Pushrods mounted inside (used exp foam sparringly to secure them in the boom). They are super tight, very easy to do with the foam approach, and the weight of the foam blobs is just a few grams in total. I did not use the provided hardware for the rudder and elevator, used DLG techniques here. I will post some pics if there is any interest. Lots of flap travel, the assembly was very clean, albeit required a little planning with regard to the pushrods. Overall, I'm very impressed with the quality of the plane, some of the best I have seen. Can't wait to wring it out.

I have about 80g and 4 AA cells in the nose (of my Supra) so pictures of your rudder and elevator system would be fun to see.

Jojo,

If you're using 2/3 A 1400mah cells instead of AA cells, I expect you'll be adding a couple of ounces for balance. 63ounces is very light for full carbon Supra. Using the expanded foam in the boom also adds a bit of weight behind the cg. Most of the glass versions required adding 4 ounces to the nose for balance. Regardless, they are great fliers.

I've been using my own setup for the last 6 months. I set up a second model memory last night using Drela's recommended setup. I look forward to trying it this weekend.

Have a good maiden!

I added 2.4oz to balance a little aft of the recommended 92mm. Auw is exactly 64oz (without ballast tube) rtf. Thanks for the maiden well wishes. I will post some pics tonight. This plane is pretty well thought out; the nose is molded for a slug of ballast the same diameter as the ballast tube (which i suppose is the same diam as the 2/3 A cells or very close). Agreed that the foam adds weight in the wrong place. I would guess about 7-10g max of foam is back there in total, which leads to about 2x that in nose weight. Mounting the pushrods on the outside of the boom might save as much as an ounce. 63oz would is possible I think...not that I really care about the extra ounce, I'll be stuffing that ballast tube with lead and chucking it off a cliff anyway. :)

Jofo1 isn't Jojo ;O)

My CG has ended up a bit in front of 92mm. I found it easier to circle that way but lost some of the thermal indication.

#191 came in at 69 oz., more or less.

I wound up with aa cells because it's hard to beat the capacity of the 2700 mAh Sanyos. Touch of lead, but more capacity.

I did put in a different connector setup.

Wow Joe, yours is lighter than my glass Supra. I paid little or no attention to weight. 63/64/65, on a wing this size does an ounce or two really matter much-I doubt it. Looks like you did a very nice build. BTW, am thinking about going up to SVSS to try some MOM F3J flying at the F3J practice they are having on the 25th(Sunday) so if you want to fly off the winch next weekend we should probably make it Saturday morning, most likely at Westmont. Maybe Aaron will come as well and we could have three Supras in the air!

Oh yeah, I doubt it will ever come out but on my elevator horn I strip off a piece of insulation from appropriate sized wire, slide it on to the music wire with a dab of CA to act as a keeper just in case. Hate to lose that elevator function!
