Ok, I just imported these two planes into Clearview. They came from FMS. They don't fly as they should, and I'm pretty much illiterate when it comes to programming. These are planes I am building right now and want to have some sim time before I finish them. It never hurts to have an idea of how they will handle in the air. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Just a simple tip: All flight parameters for each model are in file named params.txt in the model folder. When you import FMS model. a params.txt is generated that is based on Edge 33%. You can select one of the stock ClearView models that you think have similar flight characteristics to the model that you imported and copy it's params.txt over the imported model params.txt This is a good way to get initial params.txt that is closer to the actial model. Then proceed with changing parameters in the advanced settings until you get the desired results.

Ok, What do I need to change so that they do not go down the runway at a "nosed over" attitude? Like I said im new at this lol.

There is alot more to the import process than just simply importing it....YOU MUST put it in ac3d...clean it up and change alot of things...This takes some time learning ac3d and how to cut the flying surfaces and then making them work.

Well then I guess I'm out of luck, I can't afford a copy of ac3d at the moment. Too many other bills at the moment. The wonderful world of credit cards lol.

Well, you are not out of luck, because you can use Blender to create or edit ClearView models - from http://blender.org Blender is free and also support ac3d format. It is very powerfull, but somewhat harder to learn than ac3d (in my opinion only).

What about gmax? I have that program with my FS2004 game. I have learned how to use 3dsmax, and gmax is just like it. Any chance I can use it to edit my models?

Matt...I have worked on the Lazy Bee...I am not happy with the plane..it is too simple and has too many square edges..that should be round..I think I'm going to create one for CV from scratch....Can you send me some pics of the real thing that I can use for the mapping of the Graphics....IE...Wing panels...Side views...ect

Here are some of my build pics. Note I modified the nose to accommodate a larger size engine. More specifically a .25 OS LA series. I will try to take some pics of the Lazy Bee plans I have as well.

Here is the Lazy Bee...I drew it from scratch..hope you like it...from my recollection..the Lazy Bee was a floater...so I made it float a bit. You can also get it from my website...Page 26 in the planes section

Thank you! Wow the Lazy Bee is dead on accurate. Love flying that little bird, about 2/3 throttle and it just putters on its merry way. Completely and utterly AWESOME! I do have a question about the Mud Duck. Is there a way to slow it down and to tone down its rudder? It seems that it goes much faster than its real life counterpart. The Mud Duck website says it should only hit about 12 mph with the wind. Plus they never said it can do corkscrew turns lol. I keep putting it into corkscrews and end up in an unrecoverable crash. The only aerobatics it was able to do was a lazy loop with some airspeed built up. But those things aside, I love how it looks. I especially like the mud duck logo on the wings, they are a nice touch. Thanks again for the Bee and the Duck. Now I got to get a new sim cable, lol.

OK to slow down the Duck...go to advanced setting and change these 2 settings.
MaxSpeed
MaxThrust
This will slow it down and when it slows down..that will also tone down the rudder....also if you just do simple settings you can use a smaller number on the rudder rate. If you have problems with it let me know...I will play with it a bit and send you the params.txt file.

Ok, thanks. I did find one little problem with the Lazy Bee. At first I thought I had my control settings wrong but when I turn the rudder one way, the rudder goes the other way. The plane still flys in the direction I want it to go, but the rudder just points in the wrong direction.

Let me check it out...I may have to fix it..I finished it late at nite..so I could have the direction wrong on the surface movement
Ken
Here is the fixed one..sorry..sometimes the late nite ones get boo boo's
ENJOY!!

Yeah I know the feeling. All nighters and late nighters can get to be a real drag when your working lol. Just tried, and much better. Without a doubt I think the Lazy Bee is the easiest flying 3 channel plane on Clearview. Its got more style than the Basic Trainer. It and the Mud Duck are quickly becoming my favorites. Although I got to ask, any chance you can make an agri duck as well? Its going to be my next nig build over next winter lol. Its about the same as the muc duck but it has ailerons on the wingtips.

I'll gather some info and modify the existing one..maybe change the color scheme....probably in the next week or so, also I noticed somewhere that they make a small electric version...Better Yet..I may draw one from scratch

Oh thats great! Awesome even. will it have ailerons? The agriduck was designed to feature them. The Mud Duck was able to have ailerons as an option. THe optional ailerons on the Mud, and the standard ones on the agri are in the same spot. If needed I can snap a pic of the plans of my duck (the wings atleast) for where the ailerons are located. But still, thats awesome. Already a great looking model. Glow or electric?
helo36
Feb 22, 2007, 06:11 PM
Yes It will have ailerons...gonna get the flying surfaces done tonite...maybe have it finished friday nite...It is Glow.....But I can make it electric..But I think Glow would be prefered...No need for pics..I got plenty of info and pics from web sites
Ken

Feb 22, 2007, 09:11 PM
Yeah I think glow would be better. I saw pics of the electric version at MDA's website and I think it looks better with a glow engine instead of a brushless outrunner. Still it looks great.

Sorry didn't get to play with it much last night. Had to get to bed to get ready for work, lol. But from what I little I got to play with it, it looks cool. I like the nice lazy rolls I was able to do! I'll get to play with it more later today. But a well made plane thanks! Like the Mud Duck I think it flies a bit fast. Although since I have never flown one yet I can't really tell from experience. I'll know for sure when I get my Mud Duck and Agri-duck put together. Hopefully not too much longer as my Foam Lazy Bee is nearing completion. I really don't want to build 2 at the same time as I might do 1 step for the wrong plane, I've done that more than once lol. But again thanks!

Feb 23, 2007, 09:26 AM
Yea...It may be a bit faster than the real thing...BUT...I have always put a larger size motor than what is recommended..never know when you need to power out...for instance...on most 40 size...I always use a OS 46 2 cycle or Saito 52 four cycle...On 60 size models I usually try to use a 90 ect...I always over power...On the twin stick that I drew...I have it in the back room...It has 2- OS 46's....and it flies in the sim almost exactly like it does in Real life...lol...gonna take a break for a week or two...play some WoW and maybe start another project. The Duck's were easy to draw because of the square edges.....I will draw something else soon...I would like to do some more electrics..but the problem is..most of them look very similar...I am looking for something different....most of the 3d planes resemble the cap in most ways...it gets boring. I have the same problem with my real planes..always looking for something odd to fly....The U-Can-Do 60 that I did...I fly every weekend...I like it alot...been thinking about buying the 120 size..if I do..that will be another one to add.

Lol, Yeah my Mud Duck calls for no larger than a .61 2-stroke but i am putting a tower .75 instead for extra power. And thanks for the Ducks, you definently made my day lol. They fly great now I just have to wait for my new interface cable to arrive so I can hook my futaba radio to clearview. I really don't like using a gamepad, it seems to be more like a game to fly that way.

Ha ha thats awesome! The flying Lawn mower. Any chance of an Hydrofoam and a cox micro warbird or two? The micros would be cool to fly in the gym landscape.

Feb 27, 2007, 07:41 PM
Hydafoam...hmmm...might look into that one...that is the boat that flies also correct?
The Lawnmower actually flies..here is the website where you can buy the kit..take a look at the other flying things they have...they even have videos ...as for the cox mini's..that would be easy to do..simply make one of ther warbirds already made..and size it down...

Cool site, I like the flying snoopy doghouse lol. I think I saw it in an issue of Model Airplane News. Looked really cool, said it was hard to fly though. Yeah the hydrofoam is the boat that flies in the air, and runs on grass. Like the Storm Launcher or the Miss Hydrofoam, etc. there are lots of pics of various models here at rcgroups. Storm Launcher, Miss Hydrofoam, Formula 1, etc.. Some are real floaters, and some are as wicked as any aerobat. Storm Launcher uses directional thrust as rudder and an elevator, and the others all use elevons and rudders.

Nice looking model, I like the blaxk and red scheme. Still have trouble flying it. No matter what I do it flys sideways in a circle, I over compensate and well gravity takes its course......crunch, lol.

Flies great, but the soundfile sucks. All the videos of the strykers all have a more beefed up sound to them. But other than that, a great flier. It doesn't seem as fast as the ones in the videos, but it has a better roll rate than the F27A and B. I speak from experience. I have the F27A and is as yet my favorite delta wing.
