FSX looks a lot better (on a super computer !) but X-Plane does have FAA approval so it must doing something right. You can download a demo (http://www.x-plane.com/demo.html) of X-Planes BTW.

Are you putting a DX 10 card in ? I'm just waiting for the DX10 patch (http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/default.aspx) for FSX before I upgrade to vista etc. By the time the patch for FSX is ready SP1 for vista should be about done

Ah ok. As I mentioned FSX needs a very fast computer (http://www.simhq.com/_air7/air_260b.html) to look its best, if not it just ends up looking like FS 2004 with a different menu !

FYI the simhq.com review system was ...

Pentium 4, 3.4GHz
2 GB DDR2 SDRAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT PCI Express 256MB

lord, I suggest you to wait few months before you build up a computer for FSX. FSX runs at his best only with Vista, DirectX10, the FSX patch for DX10 and a DX10 videocard. With todays hardware you need at least a fast dualcore cpu, fast RAM (800mhz), and a high end video card (around 500$). And you will run it with medium low settings with no more than 35FPS in a generic scenery, less if you are over a city with many buildings or around high traffic areas.
