A friend of mine Tor Burkhard who does not do computers is making and selling these nicely built and very adjustable plane caddies. They are great for sailplane and can be made to fit just about any plane with a smaller fuse. All you need to supply is the tripod. The Caddy has the blind nut to accept the standard tripod attachment. Many here in the PNW have been testing these for a couple of seasons now and they work great, not only at the field but also in the shop as well. The cost is $55.00 plus $8.00 shipping to the lower 48. Let me know if you are interested and I will be the middle man and get your info to Tor for shipping.

For all who want one I just spoke with Tor and he is still in Uma AZ and will return home Wed next week. He can ship units on Thursday. He has about 25 of these ready to go. He only needs your address and he will ship and asks you send the $$$ or return the caddy. So give me your shipping addresses and I will get them to him when he gets back.

Tor called me this morning and said all 9 were shipped this morning. He wanted to make an instruction sheet and get the packaging all done before shipping and that caused the delay.

Got mine today. Took about 5 minutes to assemble. May strip it right down to bare wood, sand it and stain it a nice mahogony color.

Shameless, but nonetheless it is a great product. Haven't been able to use mine much but I really enjoy it. Can't wait for better flying weather so I can wear it out!

Are long dowels with the padded support also included? I assume those are intended for larger models and the ones integrated with the stand for smaller ones?

Yes they are included. There are also small bungy cords to hold the plane to the caddy in addition to some velcro so you can shape the V to whatever you like.

Just wondered if any of these were left over from the original batch, or are any new ones being made?
Thanks,

I wouldn't be without mine. It breaks down to fit into the bottom of my Sportube, and I have a pipe stand with a 3/8" steel nail welded into the bottom, the top has a screw thread that fits the plane perch.
I can't imagine not having one.

David,
In your first post you say, “With the right tripod this is a very stable platform.”
What kind and/or what brand of tripod do you recommend?
Gordysoar

Any camera stand tripod works. They all have the bolt to match the blind nut on the Plane Perch's bottom. 1/4"
I use a 1" pipe 25" tall, with a 3/8" x 7" nail welded into the bottom. The top has a 1/4" bolt wedged inside on some plastic spacers and a knob to tighten it to the plane perch.
This pipe has a threaded joint in its middle so that it can be seperated for transport or mailing.
I didn't fabricate it. It was an original part of the Super Stand, the forerunner to the Plane Perch, a lot of years ago.

Hey all... I realize this is an old thread - but someone pointed me in this direction and I really like what I'm seeing. Can anyone tell me the dimensions on this? It looks like it'll hold a F3F pretty good, but how about something like an Extra300? Thats why i'm looking for the dimensions. :D
Thx

A caddy carries golf club, birds sit on perches.
Tor Burkhard makes them, they are CNC cut. Ready to use. Just add stand.
tburkhard@comcast.net
For sailplanes.
Gas planes are too bulky, too heavy for connection to a tripod and sit on wheels unless upside down, then a good thick piece of foam works best.
Its clear you aren't spending enough time flying sailplanes, because other wise you'd have rationaled this all out by your self :-).
I flew a lot of glow and gas, and now a bit of sailplanes..more than anyone else on Earth, and carry my Plane Perch everywhere.
It's kind of handy :-)

I've never flown glow/gas and don't think I ever will.
But some of my 'electrics' - even the gliders - have a bigger fuse than what I've seen photos of here. My Salto for one... That's why I was wondering what the dimentions are. Yeah, would be great to put my Extra300 on it too, not necessarily for 'working' but to get it out of the trunk and bolted together; having it up off the ground on a stand like this would be great!

For the $60 or so, its worth buying one of Tor's. Then you have a template and the original which you could sell after you built your others.
Staying off my knees is why I carry mine around the world each day. It disasembles so it fits into my Sportube bottom.
