I knew I should have printed off the directions to DEAF. Anyone still have it and can repost?

It is on OU-Texas weekend so people wanting a hotel should probably not wait to the last minute.

Yes, he is right - last year was during the State Fair and a big ball game and there was a shortage of rooms.

There is a hotel (well 2 actually but one is a bit on the 'roach' side) just about 2 miles from the field.

Good luck and hope to see you there!

Does anyone have the map of how to get there? I know where Seagoville is but not the field. Also, someone mentioned earlier that AMA prorates the membership. Do you know where I can find any info on that. I have to pay full price for 3 months.

from Dallas:
Take 175, CF Hawn, south
Take the Simonds Rd exit
Turn Right on Simonds
Follw the road until you get to bowers(?)
(there is nomally a small sign showing where to turn.
Turn left and follow the road through a neighborhood and then go into the park.

On AMA, AMA does prorate but it occurs in your second year. So you pay the full rate to join and then get a discount the next year. I believe that if you join in October you actually get 15 months for the price of 12. Check with AMA Membership to confirm, 1 (800) 435-9262 ext 290 or cpierce@modelaircraft.org

If you are wanting to go to DEAF and you need to join AMA. The easiest way is to join at the meet. The Contest Director is able to take AMA dues during a sanctioned event!!

Also if you are a member of AMA but have lost your card (or proof of membership), when you arrive at a sanctioned event you can pay the the membership fee to the CD and then AMA will refund the payment when they verify that you are a current member.

Don't forget to wear a name tag/badge with something to the effect of:

"EZONER 'mattk17'"

so we can put a screen name with a face http://www.ezonemag.com/disc/smile.gif

Better yet, if EAM is there as a vendor, they should be selling EZONE t-shirts at a discount. BTW, is there a list of vendors yet?

I'm looking forward to DEAF since I have been flying solo at the local football field or at a field that is all gas/glow except for me. It will be nice to see other electrics in the air. I hope some vendors are there with flying models.

I'd really like to see some other models in flight: urban flyer, champion, crazy sparrow, sporty, mini-lazer fly.

Matt, I plan to be at DEAF with the DuskStik and UrbanFlyer.

Doug,

Are you planning on bringing some kits with you?

Matt,

It's a great event to get 'recharged' about electric flight and all that it can be.

All -

Anybody bringing some goodies to sell this year?

Hope to see you all there -

DEAF is getting close! :D I'm glad to hear you'll be there, Doug, with your new planes. I'm just getting into slowflyers with the Tiger Moth so I'm anxious to check out some other planes. I've got my eye on getting some other planes and DEAF is a super opportunity for everybody to get together to have a blast and see how all the different electrics perform. I'm assuming both EAM and New Creations will be there. Kirk seemed to be doing brisk business last year. Is it time yet to ask for the "roll call" of all the E Zoners planning to make it to DEAF? :)

I just got hotel reservations and it wasn't easy. If you need a room, get it now.

I will be bringing kits - got to pay for the trip somehow!

I'm planning on attending both days along with my brother Ralph. Looking forward to another great event, and the opportunity to talk with other Ezoners.

anybody know the name of the hotel(s) that are on 175 and simmonds road? I was thinking one was a Best Western and the other a no-name special (which I spent one night in last year).

I didn't see these listed on the DEAF map and info.

Thanks!

If we are doing a roll call, I plan on being there all day Saturday. I'll be bringing my zagi400x, tigermoth and lite sticks (full fuse and stick versions). I look forward to seeing the other planes fly.

Doug, glad to hear the urban flyer will be there. That is on the short list for my next plane.

Well, I hope it was a Best Western Executive Inn - at least the directions look right. For those booking a hotel, I booked a room at this one:

BW EXECUTIVE INN
1910 US HWY 175
SEAGOVILLE TX 75159
SEAGOVILLE TX 75159
US

Phone: 972-287-9100
Fax: 972-287-7773

I think they have more rooms and if this is the one I hope it is, it is about 3 miles from the field.

I plan on arriving Friday evening and staying through Sunday evening. I may have my 4 year old son in tow, so look for a middle ageing guy pulling his hair out :)

I am a bit low on planes at the moment but plan to at least bring my HL Champion, Tiger Moth, NE Sail Accord, and a Flying Styro F-16 or two. If I can manage the funds I will try to finish my Aircombat Series Spit. and hopefully a little Hacker Biplane called 'Funny'.

Of course I have an old FMA razor which I may bring for any combat that bay break out :D

The Accord may be for sale at the event if anyone is interested.

Have a good one!

I am staying at the Comfort suites with Doug (CoClimber)

Is the runway paved? I am bringing my Champion and it does not like to land on grass. I also am bringing a Zagi in the hopes some combat breaks out. Will have to see what else we can get in the car after it is loaded with Duskstiks and Urban Flyers.

Keith,

Yes there is a paved runway as well as a nearby large pond suitable for 'aqua-craft'.

OK, what's the weather going to be like? We are driving from South Park, Colorado, (well, sort of) so we are expecting the proper sacrifices to have been made to guarantee warm weather with no winds

Checked three different weather reports. The general consesus is it will be partly coudy Sat. Highs in the lower 70's. Sunday a little less cloudy. Too early for wind predictions. Friday looks rainy.
It looks promising!

Harvey,

Spectating is free as far as I know (or at least I didn't pay last year). You will have to pay for the dinner though.

I was getting nervous today during all the rain but now it looks like its clearing up. Only problem may be wind. It was pretty windy today and the forcast I watched said to expect strong winds again tomorrow. I hope they are wrong. Will have to see in the AM.

I have batteries all charged up and planes ready to fly if weather cooperates. If winds are up, I may still go just to watch others fly. I've tried the lite stiks and tigermoth in high winds and it isn't pretty. 5mph is no problem but the predicted 10-15 es no buenno!

Matt, did you show up? I was looking for you. Sunday wasn't too bad and the winds were low enough that I got a few flights with the DuskStik. The UrbanFlyer doesn't care about wind so it could be flown anytime.

Doug,
Yes, I was there Saturday morning early. I could tell I was in trouble when I stepped out the front door to drive over about 7:30am and the winds were already blowing hard. By the time I got to DEAF, it was too windy for me to fly any of my planes. I'd estimate the winds at 15+ by 9am. I could have probably got the zagi up but it isn't any fun for me when the winds are that high.

I had my 8 year old boy in tow and did stop by your tent briefly saturday morning. Sorry I didn't stop to chat but my son was getting cold. I was hoping to see your plane fly later in the day but I heard you tell a guy while I was there that you wouldn't be flying the urban flyer due to the high winds (which I don't blame you). I did like the design though, it looked really streamlined.

We stayed until lunch and the winds just seemed to be getting stronger. We had only saw a dozen or so planes fly in the time we were there so we decided to leave at lunch. I wish I could have made it out sunday since the weather was better but I couldn't make it. Did alot more planes fly? How did your urban assault flyer do? Any videos of it yet?

CoClimber

Matt, you should have introduced yourself! I had lollypops for your son.

I didn't fly the UrbanFlyer at all on Saturday because I am still a novice pilot and didn't want to break it. Jim Bourke and Fitz (thanks guys) did fly it Saturday. Wind? What wind? The plane had no trouble at all and the winds were gusting to 15 mph while it was flying.

Now that the show is over, I'll be flying the UF a lot more. I fly in the morning before work and my landing area is a sidewalk with a guard rail on one side and a steep bank on the other. That makes for some interesting landings!

Hope to see you at DEAF next year.

Matt, you should have stayed longer! As the afternoon wore on and the high pressure area moved in, the wind died off more and more..and was near calm at 5 pm.

Sorry I did not get to say hello. I was the big guy with the little bitty twin flying wing...;)
(See the Micro N9M thread over in the foamies section)

Doug, I enjoyed seeing your Urban flyer fly! And I noticed the Dustick braving the wind in the afternoon.

Tom,
Isn't that the way it always goes with weather. I would have gladly stayed longer but you know how it is with kids. If the action isn't steady, they lose interest fast. Especially since I had him all hyped up to expect to see dad formation flying with other tigermoths, doing zagi group flies, etc. I had a stack of batteries and a minivan loaded up with planes and zero flying time. Oh well, there is always next year. Are there any other electric fly-ins in Texas this year?

Doug, if the urban flyer was flying in those winds, it must be one tough little aircraft. When are you going to do a video so we can see it in action?

CoClimber

Matt,

Keith, who drove out with me, got some of the flying on video so I hope to have some soon.
