Hey Brian these are great events and the Modesto club members are gearing up to come and play at both of them again this year. But don't tell everybody because our guys like the raffle prizes they have won the last three years. Mike Heer

I'll be there again this year. I have my "Yellow Shirt" starched and ready to go. I was hoping the dog would be with me again this year, to bring me some more good luck. She didn't make it this year so you guys might have a chance.

Hey Brian:
My 1/5th scale DR 1 kit is not going to arrive in time for me to get it flying at my own World War I fly in. So the first contest/fun fly for it will be Half Moon Bay. I will have my Hobby Lobby DR 1 for protection in the mean time. It flies great thanks to the recommendations you forwarded to me. It doesn't take off so well but it FOOHs (flies out of Hand) great. Mike,
The small DR I take off very well indoor. I am not sure if Kevin hand launch outdoor or not. I bet the short couple and high drag wing had something to do with it. The wind has to be right down the runway too. No wind indoor!!

Gentlemen~
Any news on the status of this event? Are we going to have a field at Devil Mountain to fly from?

Good news, the Devil Mt. Flyin will proceed as planned. Better news is as we will be losing this field, the barbed wire fence surrounding the runway will be down and out of everyones way! This will be the last time we have a flyin at this field, but we'll still have it next year hopefuly at our new field! Come on out!

What sort of runway is at the Devil Mt. facility? Is it suitable for EDF with ROG capability and little wheels going fast? Is there grass or dirt for the general landing area aside from any runway?
I have been told the Half Moon Bay site is paved. How long is it? And is there grass too for belly landers?
Thanks-
ed

Hi Ed, The runway for the Devil Mt. Efly at DVRC field is petromat. It's sort of a black plastic cloth that they use to put under roadbeds. It's pretty smooth, my twin Islander takes off great from it. I also land my fiberglass hotliners and pylon racers on it without grinding away like an asphalt runway would.

Thanks Greg, I'll be making my best effort to attend both events. Hopefully we can get a big group of the Rono guys to come out and bring down the property values a bit. http://www.ezonemag.com/disc/wink.gif

Dear Greg:
Bring Snoopy, I have my Dr 1 sorted out and while it is slower then your pup it is flying well. You may have to throttle back to keep our planes together but we should have some fun. I will also have my new 1/5th scale Dr 1 there which despite its size builds quicker then many small ARFs. Good flying until then. Mike Heer

Sorry to hear your not going to be able to make it to these events, I was looking forward to seeing your latest flying wing. I'm assuming you had to replace your pylon racer after that encounter with the poll at the Reno races.

Yeah Kern... The pylon racer was pretty bruised up. I decided to start from scratch, as a rebuild would fall short on what the whole pretence of the model was about.
You guys have a blast at the fly-in this weekend!

Eddie P asked about the PAM runway - both are paved and quite smooth. There is a rough grass area parallel to the main runway.
