Hi guys,

Ok, the Hawk is reborn so to speak :) I am in the middle of sorting the first order of Hawk kits with EDF & motor, hoping to have them in 2-3 weeks.

The kit will comprise of the complete airframe in either Red or White, with the supplied EDF unit and brushless 4200Kv inrunner motor. A servo pack will also be available for the aircraft comprising three 8 gram servos that are usually supplied with the complete package. Setup is basically aileron/elevator/wheel nose.

I am not going to bring the complete kit in to start with, after getting reports back on the performance with my 3s1700 20c Sports series lipo I have decided to offer a couple of battery combos along with a DN LV25A esc as a power package to match the supplied brushless fan.

I am taking pre-orders now, there will be two initial small batches shipped in EMS for the "earlybird" release and if all goes well the first large batch in by late March.

Cost for the kit with EDF/motor combo is $199.00
Cost for the 8 gram servo set is $36.00 (only when ordered with kit)

Battery & ESC combo will be available at a special price for all customers ordering the first batches of Hawk, please ask me about this when you place your order.

Please send pre-orders to info@extremerc.com.au with "Hawk earlybird" in the title.
Thanks guys!

Mark.

Sent you my order Mark. Don't know how to explain it to 'her indoors' though.
You had better get some spare parts also.

You know I'll need them.

Would this be a reasonable first EDF for someone who has been flying electric for a couple of years? (some reasonably quick stuff, but nothing lightning fast yet)

Yes for sure Jason, probably one of the better intro models for EDF actually. And it has scope for some serious upgrades in the future.

UPDATE: Packages for the Hawk

Ok guys I have been working on getting an Earlybird package together that is close to the standard factory package cost wise but with much higher spec electronics. The savings by purchasing the package is quite reasonable.

What we have is as follows:
Standard short kit:
Hawk kit with EDF unit & brushless motor $199.00

Standard full kit:
Hawk kit with EDF unit & brushless motor, 25A esc, 3s1800 12c lipo, set of 8 gram servos, all wiring and plugs $299.00

Performance Package one:
Hawk kit with EDF unit & brushless motor, servo pack, DN LV25A esc, ExtremeRC 3s1700 Sports series 20c Lipo, plugs and wiring $330.00.

Performance Package two
Hawk kit with EDF unit & brushless motor, servo pack, DN LV25A esc, PolyQuest 3s1800XP series 20c Lipo, plugs and wiring $350.00.

Options:
To upgrade the 25A esc to a DN LV36A esc add $10.00 (this is for those contemplating an upgrade to 4 cell or similar in the future)

All kits come with steerable undercarriage, but this is not necessary as the plane hand launches quite easily, and if you are flying off grass its easy to belly land. Performance has been reported as a noticeable increase when tested with my 3s1700 20c lipo, the combination with the factory fan and motor appears to offer very good performance for a park jet.

Spare parts:

Most parts will be available, although not immediately, I will endeavour to keep wings, fuselages, and tailplanes in stock. Canopys have been reported as susceptable to sun damage if left in a hot car, these will also be kept in stock as will fans and motors. In fact for those wanting to build a depron project or similar the fan/motor combo could be an affordable way to power your scratch built plane.

Performance upgrades:

I will be doing some testing and modifications in the coming months which will include a 4 cell version, modified fans, and bracing for the airframe to suit. This will not be available for a while, but should be easily incorporated into an existing aircraft when it is available, as the fan is removable. It looks like it will be quite affordable to swap to 4 cells later on too! So dont feel you will miss out by having a current 3 cell setup.

Hope this fills in all the gaps!
Regards,
Mark.

Even with the smileys there I don't think your reply really should have been in this thread.

Fact is, that model on eBay is going to cost you at least $270, then you'll need to upgrade your parts to match up with what ExtremeRC is offering.

From prior experience, that lipo in the eBay package is going to make a good pillow or brick within 10 cycles, so add another $80~$90 for a decent pack. I'd turf the ECS [sic] immediately and get one that won't burn up at the "rated" current.

Toss the radio gear away - they don't even tell you what band it's on (27MHz? 40MHz?).

Aside from the bare airframe there's no comparison between the package on eBay and what ExtremeRC offers (from what I can ascertain).

Feel free to go for the eBay package but don't expect it to perform or last as long (aside from pilot crashes) as properly tricked out kit.

Paul.

In case people are wondering, I'm actually a competing retailer to ExtremeRC however I think when it comes down to AU vs "the world" it can only serve in our best interests to highlight what are great disparities between comparisons both for the gain of the end-consumer and the local R/C industry.

Looks very much like these on Ebay. Same photo? Includes radio Charger and batteries.

Bernoo, radio is useless, wrong frequency and no range as reported by the original testers here in OZ. Charger is highly illegal here and wont do your home insurance any good. Battery they supply is not the same as even the stock one I am putting with the kit. You will save 29 bucks, have no warranty, a useless radio, and a battery that will do maybe a dozen cycles.

Anyhow, guess we should get this thread back to just talking about the Hawk. Incidently, it's one of my favorite jets - built a few slope versions out of balsa when I was a kid.

From what I've seen in the past ExtremeRC does a pretty good job at turning out well tuned EDF models, so I'd like to see how he goes tuning these ones.

I would love to buy Aussie and Aussie products but this is a imported product that I believe I should be able to state my opinion on, which I think is still allowed in Australia. I'll let the administrators be the judge and abide by their desicion.

tmichel - of course you are entitled to your opinion - but when you make ridiculous statements that really don't help the thread at all, be prepared for soemone to point this out to you.

Having owned an ebay one and using Marks upgrades, I can assure you you are comparing apples with sports cars. If you want to waste your money on an ebay purchase, go ahead.

What Mark is offering is so far superior to what is available on Ebay or even direct from the factory, for so little extra, that it is an incredible buy.

If you do buy the lesser ebay version, please do not bother getting back on this thread and start telling us all how poor a product it is, becasue you will not be flying the same product as those who buy off Mark and are incredibly happy with their model.

This was the exact reason that Jeremy from aussiejet had to give this away. He had made some improvements to the product and was going to bring in a good package at a good price, but once it appeared on Ebay, he knew he would have to deal with all the tmichaels of the world and it just wasn't worth the effort for the minimal money he would make.

You are entitled to your opinion as are Paul Daniels and Tax dodger, both of whom make very good points. I also congratulate Paul on his professionalism and encourage any serious modellers with an intrest in the Hawk to grab Marks package. You will not be dissapointed by the service or the performance.

Spot On Watts!!

Those kind of commnets about buying off ebay are a prime example why i didn't bother..all you need is some tight A$$ who doesn't want to pay the extra bit to buy it off someone who has put in hours of flight testing thus been able to answer questions about flight control etc, having spare parts available and the most important thing..offering SUPPORT.

BTW if your a squeezer and decide to get it off ebay just rember this..

The charger is illegal in Aus and a silly 240v thing, so have a fire extinguisher reeady, the radio is crap, less than a 300m range and only available on 40mhz or 35mhz..so have some spare cash for when your plane looses radio and hits someone in a park cause no doubt you probally didn't want to join a club due to the cost thus relieving you of any liability insurance you may have had flying in a club scene.

And most of all... if you SUCK AT FLYING AND CRASH don't bitch about it on here. you probally crashed because of the crappy radio or because of your own lack of flying skill (yes..ducted fans are very different to fly than prop aircraft).

for those of you that want to buy one of these off mark i would say go for it. the package he is offering will really fly this baby well. I have a heap of flights on mine and am more than happy to offer any advice or help to those that buy one off Mark.

sorry for the rant but it just annoys me that some people are so cheap.

Hey... who moved this thread? I came in to look around and it was -gone- (had to search for it... now it's in the "vendor" forums!?!?)

Now anyone interested in it in AU will not see this.

Also, if we're moving commercial tainted threads off to here - then why are all the other commercial threads still remaining in the Australian forum ? Something smells wrong here.

Paul.
