Yes, it is this weekend the 28th and 29th. I want to attend but is this mostly a glow event? I like seeing all sorts of models, not that I'm hung up on seeing glow. I'm just wondering what the event will be like and what facilities they have as far as runway/grass area to land.
I have heared it is dedicated to Pearl Harbor, WWII in general and they are looking for any WWII era "CAT" models. My Bearcat sort of fits into this but at 30" it will be the tiniest CAT there, I'm sure.

It is this weekend the 29th at the Apollo 11 field in Van Nuys. The field has a brand new runway and plenty of grass area to land on. The field is however under attack by the local reclamation plant. They want to flood the basin area, which will flood the model flying field as well. We need people to come out and get involved in saving the field. I will be posting an in-depth letter here on e-zone informing people of what is going on and what they can do to help. Don't let another field be the victim of bad decision...

It's true this is another case of the Bush attitude taking over of your rights. This is one
of best fields in the world and they just want to swamp it over with no regard. There
are no other public fields around for miles and they chase you out when you try to fly
in the parks. Where are we supposed to fly, is that right at risk too?
It will hurt the hobby shops that depend on it. Also the field has been there since the
thirties. The Valley flyer's just spent close to 70 thousand dollars on a new runway.
The problem is we are the invisible hobby. The public thinks we are just flying little
toys and has no idea of the depth to it. We need to get the media involved and let the
public see how important this hobby is.
Be sure to watch for Jeff's post and do what you can to help because the next field
WILL BE YOURS! This government doesn't care a bit about your hobby, but you
do, so let them know! Remember, they work for us, that's what all those taxes are
for.
By the way Jeff I didn't know there was a meet this weekend on sunday. Could you
post some more details? Is it contest or fun fly?
Thanks,
Steve Neill

The Woodland field is one of the best, wide paved AND grass runway. Electricity and water at pits. Lake for sea planes. Bring along youe Grumman Duck! Originally posted by Eddie P:

I hope they are a little more open to E-planes than my experiences would indicate. Last time I went to see this show they bristled at my even mentioning foreign aircraft, and gave the guy with a Bf110 and a host of smaller stuff a bad time. I'd hate to think how they would treat E-fliers http://www.ezonemag.com/disc/eek.gif Hopefully that one time was an anomaly, and not the norm.

Greg-
Thanks for the map. Is there flying on Sunday as well? I may very well stop by Sun morning. If electrics are no prob I could bring My Bearcat and Spitfire.
I'd like to bring my BAe-146 too (hasn't flown @ sea level yet) but it's far from a WWII warbird. Mabey not that one http://www.ezonemag.com/disc/smile.gif

Yes, there is flying both sat and sun.
As posted above it is a great site with grass to sit on, shade, and even hot food during the events(not catered).
It is an IC club, but I have flown there a few times EP and it is a pleasure!

I guess I'll be at the Bay Area Duo then. Hope you all had fun!
