I need a set of small air retracts for my Horizon/Eflite Airliner. I have been looking at these:

http://www.rc-warbirds.com/product_info.php/cPath/71_82/products_id/330
or these:

http://www.ejf.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=73&products_id=220
But I'm afraid they can't hold up the weight of the plane that will be around 1500grams/52oz
Thanks for your input!

Hey Ben, I'm glad I found this thread. I'm also looking for a retract system for a Super Airliner. Have you had any luck yet? I have not seen the system you presented but I've seen similar. It seems to me that to hold the plane's weight two factors are critical: the retract's rod and the strengh of the base on which the system seats. The base can easily be beefed up as for the rods, I think that running them into a carbon fiber tube of adecuate diameter might do the trick.
I'm looking forward to find a solution, I want my Airliner to have retracts AND flaps. It'd be so sweet :)
Cheers.

Have you looked at the pneumatic ones offered by Jet Hangar Hobbies? Larry is getting them made in Asia, and brings them into the USA in small batches. He charges something for each batch too.

The airliner begs for a set of retracts. However to get the plane high enough off the ground to work practically those landing gear legs are going to have to be pretty long.
Perhaps you can answer your own question. The retracts at RC-Warbirds are rated for an airframe weight of 600gm=21.16oz. They have a wire gear leg diameter of 2mm=0.079" (a bit over 1/16"). Do these numbers seem within the specs of the plane you intend to use them in?

I had to look a bit because the thread for these was buried deep. Larry Epifanio of Southeast Model Products (http://southeastmodelproducts.com/) makes a really nice set of retracts. These are the nicest ones I've ever seen. You can find the thread for these small jewels here (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=357419).
As you can see below, he makes a couple of different types. One is an all machined set and the other uses I believe the small Great Planes retracts utilizing Larry's pnuematics. The latter set is less expensive if that helps.
This'll make a great addition to the airliner. Good luck on this one, you're charting new territory. Keep us all posted! :D
