I thought I would post some pictures of a waterline model of a tramp steamer that a friend and myself built for another friends model railroad. The model was built from enlarged plans from the book TRAMP by Michael J Krieger. The real ship was the MATAORA that is based in the Cook Islands. The real boat is 45 meters long and we built it to a 1/48th. scale which made the model about 50" long. The railroad is in ON3 scale which is O scale running gear and HO scale track to simulate a narrow gage RR. He has logging and mines on the layout and wanted to have a means to ship his finished product so we thought a coastal tramp steamer would work. Jerry J

Here are some additional pictures of the finished model. This is a stand-off model so the detail is just that. The model is now featured on the RR model layout and one of these days I will get some pictures of it in its dockside setting. It was a fast and fun model built over the holiday season. Jerry J

A little paint and details make a stand-off model.

This is a gorgeous model! Made from scrap, lol... Where's that rock! :D

You have to hate it when Jerry finishes "slapping" something together.

Jerry, that's a typical inter-island freight boat, all right. :) Low midships freeboard for easy cargo handling, accommodations mostly aft. The Army had a bunch of these servicing AMS survey crews down in the south Pacific back in the mid 1960's, when I was down there. :D Raises some memories---. ;)
