Hi...pretty new to the world of electronics and building my own stuff, but I am going to try

Question is: I already have a breadboard, but a couple of the circuits I am looking to build are made to be built with thinSOTs, SMTs, and the like.

I think in my travels I have seen things which allow you to plug in a chip tiny in size into something a little larger, so that you can build your circuit on a breadboard, but I can't seem to remember what these thing were called, so I can't seem to find any matches in Google.

Any suggestions appreciated...luckily, I have a pair of Jeweler's glasses, so I "think" I will be able to solder these things together when necessary, but of course, I would like to test first, solder later.

TIA...Eric

Generally, for every surface mount device there is usually a standard component equivilent, so whilst prototyping I would suggest you look for the DIP versions of the chips and use normal descrete components.

Hi,

Those things are called "adapter". There are so much different types of smd's that I don't think the a universal one exist.
Try this: http://www.futurlec.com/SMD_Adapters.shtml or http://www.roth-elektronik.com/public1/ .
Of course if you don't want to solder them you need to make some kind of "retainer".

Hope it help.

no smt breadboarding,
i prefer makinga prototype board, assemble and test.

very fast

OK...thanks...I will search for adapters, but in the meantime, I may try to solder some leads on the component I am trying, so that I can plug it into the breadboard, before making it a permanent circuit.

Hi, Ejaf

That exists ...

http://www.selectronic.fr/soussousfamille.asp?fam_ref=06&sfam_ref=10&ssfam_ref=15

better here:

http://fr.farnell.com/jsp/search2/browse.jsp?N=500021+1006705&Ntk=gensearch_004&Ntt=Adaptateurs&Ntx=

Doesn't fit all families of CMS nor !!!
