Wandering around the net, I found this cute little submarine toy.

Perfect for the back of an RC reseach vessel. ;)

needs to be yellow with NAUTILE on her sides, or add a top horiz fin, (like on a DC9/MD80), painted red upper white lower and "MIR 1" or "MIR 2" added.

So,... How big would an 1/8 scale reasearch vessel build out to?

my alvin is not quite 3 feet long, (full scale 23 feet)

http://www.geocities.com/tim_senecal/alvin_20061111.jpg

and Alvin's first tender was the Lulu (100 feet) at the same scale would be about 12 feet:

current tender is the RV Atlantis at 210 feet.... which would make a 1:8th scale version a little over 26 feet.

gotta let me finish editing my post :)

I actually did some serious thinking about making a Lulu out of 4 3x6 sheets of plywood, using 1 foot diameter tubing of some sort for the pontoons. by breaking it down to the 8 individual major parts, it would fit in the back of my pickup...

insanity

Instead of a sub for a research vessel about a diving bell? A derrick type tower,an operating winch,a well with doors to lower it down? All could be done by remote and could be done in just any scale. something to get the gray matter started

Wow, cool link Umi, what will they come out with next? Onboard camera in the control room...too cool. Imagine a "giant" bass or catfish swimming by. At this rate, by the time I expire, maybe every cool subject will be available RTR or at least in a kit?

this is that said sub http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_FrxNih_4A

My new camera came with a waterproof housing so what a better way to try it out, fill bath with water, put camera into housing, place housed camera into water, place small grate ontop of housing to prevent it floating away. put sub into water, set camera running and have fun!

This is the little sub on her mothership to be
